I was all excited reading this thread, that it seems like they are doing really good casting, and then...roller skating...it just seems so tacky. Also when the show is still running in 10 years it will be harder for everyone to phone in their performance...

Do you want them to "Phone" it in?

Other than that, did you enjoy the play Mrs Lincoln?

They're using those roller sneakers with the retractable wheel that is only in the heel of the shoe.

No, I was just making a bad joke because I saw Beauty and the Beast recently and there were definitely some phoned-in performances.

If they are planning to use roller skates just shoot me. But seriously let's stick to to the topic. I'm still pulling for Emily Skinner as Ursula she's perfect for the role. And the producers are making her King Triton's sister so there's a horrible irony right there.

For those of you who think the rollerskating idea is horrible (which is most of you--myself included), how do you think they should create the underwater effect?

I believe the "look" of Disney's Ariel was based on
Alyssa Milano, but I could be mistaken.

I beleive Ariel's faciel features was based on Alyssa Milano her hair was based on Sally Ride in space.

I meant to say the effect of Ariel's hair floating was based on Sally Ride's hair when she was up in space. By the way hs anyone heard about who's playing Eric?

I think they should use a bunch of different techniques depending on the moment. For example, in the first scene at the concert some of the key characters could do the air-suspension thing (ie- Triton, the sisters etc...) while the ensamble is rollar-skating around on the ground to watch the show. Ariel could make her entrance 'swimming' over the audience in the Mary Poppins way....if thats possible....and for other moments, more dramatic moments Ariel could switch to roller skates so she'd be more grounded. Pun intended. And lets not omit the classic mermaid sitting on a rock costume.
