Everybody knows about the greats, and everybody knows Grand Hotel had the best one
Secret Garden, 2014's opening, Miss Saigon, multiple different Gypsys, the list goes on
But I've been watching The Happy Time's 1968 Tony performance a lot recently

Robert Goulet delivers the title track, and it is literally perfect in his voice, I wait on every note and they all sound so flawless and clear and powerful despite the relatively low quality recording
Michael Rupert as a child, already a star
David Wayne leading his incredible number with subtle facial expressions that make me completel believe these three men as three generations of a beautiful family
I know the show itself had a lot of disappointing elements, but genuinely you would not guess that just by watching this amazing Tony Award performance
Are there any other performances like this that don't get talked about enough but are just really great?
I think you mean 2013’s opening, 2014 was Hugh Jackman merely bunny-hopping his way onto the Radio City stage.
Not sure how many would agree with me, but I like the "Coco" performance from 1970. Mostly because it's Katherine Hepburn.

Yes you're correct that was a horrible typo

LuPone belting Anything Goes to the rafters could never be lauded enough
The Wedding Singer in 2006! Then again, I think that whole show is underrated.
I also loved Romance/Romance in1988 and The Civil War in 1999. Those are two performances that don't get mentioned often but were really excellent.
Andy Karl and the cast of Groundhog Day.
1979: Robert Klein and Lucie Arnaz performing "They're Playing Our Song"....a fun and entertaining number.

I feel like I’m the only one who ever mentions the 2001 42nd Street opening number when the “favorite/best openings” gets asked about. It just works so well with the pre-taped portion starting at the Ford Center (I don’t remember if it was still called that or if it had already been renamed by that point) and traveling via subway to Radio City, then cutting back to them live coming down the aisles and taking the stage. It’s also a reminder of just how big that cast was when you see them just filling that huge stage.

The Wonderful Town revival has one of the best of all time for me. I think comparing things to Fosse is overdone but it does call him to mind. It's perfect. Wish I could find the Donna Murphy cast recording somewhere.
