I did not watch the show much, but I definitely enjoyed the episodes from season one I was able to catch. May need to watch the whole series now. Was anyone a faithful viewer throughout its duration?

I definitely wouldn't have heard this news if it was just contained in a reply to the overall "Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist" discussion thread, so I appreciate the creation of a new thread.

This is one of those shows I was "going to watch," but never did. Just like I was "going to watch" Schitts Creek, but never did (until recently, in re-runs).

I'm in the same boat as both ctorres and Highland Guy (except that I have seen Schitt's Creek lol). Sometimes those "General Discussion" threads are just too broad and unwieldy to keep track of if you aren't really devoted to it. Then again, the news was also listed in the quick links right above the message board page, so maybe I wouldn't have totally missed the news. But I figure it's big enough news to warrant its own thread, especially since it's not one of those topics that has a billion threads popping up every day.

Interesting.

It's not a surprise and I never kept up with it, but for some reason I thought it was doing well and was successful. I'll check out the ratings.

It was doing terrible in linear ratings, one of NBC's lowest rated shows and one of the lowest rated shows on any of the big networks. But it reportedly did quite well in streaming though that gets said a lot to excuse poor linear ratings and they don't release those numbers so who knows.

I was so hoping the Peacock deal would go through. Wasn't crazy about the first half of the second season but loved the second half. I wonder if they had a feeling this would happen and ended the season the way they did? Although I would like to see it continue, I am ok with the way it ended. At least in my opinion I can see where each of the characters are headed and I think that final scene sealed the deal on Zoey and Max's relationship.

Yes, the writing was on the wall, but I enjoyed the show - although I almost gave up during the first half of season 2 - but it rebounded a bit.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I gave this a try because of Styles. Could not understand why they took a light and loopy entertainment and hung this utterly depressing story about her father on the side.

i’m sad, i really enjoyed this show. seemed like great things would come in season 3, i don’t recall the season 2 finale very satisfying as the end of a story. binged all of season 1 in a day during quarantine, watched weekly during s2. rip to another show that’s ending too soon like so many from before.

I watched the entire series. It filled some of the space left by Crazy Ex-Girlfriend while never reaching that shows heights.

Zoey, the protagonist, was stuck in pattern. She kept bouncing between her two bland love interests and having the same conversations with her family and friends. It made her a tough character to build a show around.

The most interesting plotlines, for me, were at her workplace. Zoey was promoted to manager and recruited more women. Only to be confronted with the fact that the company wasn't hiring people of color. Simon took over that storyline and it faded to the background. Leif was introduced as a conniving Bud Frump character but the second season didn't have much use for him. I'd have rather explored these challenges then keep returning to the well of Zoey's grief for her father.

Most disappointing, for me, were the musical numbers. The song choices were uninspired and the arrangements flattened them. A late episode saw the entire cast singing Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now." They managed to make it sound like elevator music.

Absolutely. Her and Mary just wandering around was just bizarre, not to mention Zoey's useless brother. Apparently, a few services are interested in a final season but I seriously doubt it will happen.

Yeah. Not really surprised as they seemed to rush to wrap up the threads in the final episode.
I watched all the episodes in both seasons. I really enjoyed it (although the occasional song would make me wince or go wha?) and loved the cast. I really enjoyed John Clarence Stewart who played her sometimes boyfriend, Simon. And Jane Levy, Mary Steenburgen, and Peter Gallagher (although I got tired of seeing them shoehorn him into second season episodes after the character died).

I *did* think it was spinning its wheels. Enough of being unable to choose between the two boyfriends!! And let Mitch rest in peace.

I'll miss the show.

this comes as no surprise to me as all the plot lines seemed to have been concluded...everyone found a mate who was looking...sad reality is real life ain't this way at all...i for one am not sorry to see this show go...

just maybe if they had all sung MORE Broadway show tunes to express their inner most emotions, i would have liked this show a whole lot more...

Extremely sad, but not at all surprised. The ratings were never there, and of course everyone was watching the more "buzzy" shows to pay attention. Or people seem to think good shows don't exist outside Netflix? (Which is hardly the case, but I digress...) It's a great show and while we'll likely never get the answer to the big question of the finale, there was enough there to feel like it ended in a good place for everyone.

Peacock passed on it but a few networks have showed some interest. But, I doubt it will happen.
