I can't believe Wicked didn't win for best musical. It is the best musical regardless of what this award show says. Avenue Q does not impress me AT ALL. Wicked blew me away. There's NO comparison. What is happening to Broadway?!!!
It's going to the puppets. Go Q.
AND THAT IS THE REACTION I WOULD EXPECT FROM SORE LOSERS. AVENUE Q THE TRULY BEST NEW MUSICAL!

I am shocked too! I thought the entire night was disappointing except for Hugh and Idina winning.
Are you high broadwaybaby? Avenue Q far surpasses Wicked in all aspects of the production - it's an all-around brilliant musical, and I'm totally thrilled that it one. Not to mention, I thoroughly enjoyed Wicked as well...but BRAVO to Avenue Q, this year's Tony Award winner for BEST MUSICAL ON BROADWAY!!! YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!
Seriously, did you see how happy that group was???? Don't put them down on such a happy night...
This was an incredible night for artistic theatre

Exactly. I'm glad the voters were able to see the true best musical this year.
I screamed so loud my parents ran into my room, thinking I'd been attacked or something.
I "couldn't be happier" for the Q Team.
what is the matter w/ people on this board?! one person gives an opinion and suddenly they're attacked by everyone who doesn't agree with them! excuse me for being upset that my all time favorite show didn't win. disagree with my opinion all you want but be nice about it. and please don't ever call me "high" again-I'm an extremely Christian girl and I don't like being associated with drugs at all. i didn't know that expressing my opinion of a musical would end up with me getting my feelings hurt.

In the future, you will look back on the time when you thought Wicked was your favorite musical of all time and you will think, "It was okay. I can't believe I ever thought it was so great." You'll see. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

No wonder you're a Wicked fan. Kristin Chenoweth and yourself have so much in common!
Well, I'm interested in seeing Avenue Q. I've heard the CD, and I don't care for the music or the lyrics. The book had better damn well be the greatest words ever written. I'm trying to understand how this show beat Wicked. Is this the simply a reflection of the direction of Broadway musicals?
I own the soundtracks of both "Wicked" and "Avenue Q". Based on that, I prefer "Wicked" and really thought that it would win. However, I am not disappointed in the least. "Avenue Q" is a strong show, and brilliantly funny. I'm glad that they won so much more than the critics were expecting. They deserved to be recognized for their triumphs on the stage (and I will gladly admit that, even though I wanted "Wicked" to win it). GO Q!
Hey B-Way Babe, don't be bitter! They are both great shows and were both very desrving of the award (as was "Caroline") but there can only be one winner. And I'm more than happy for Avenue Q and it's cast!
Baby it is ok you loved Wicked. I also loved Wicked.
I was thrilled that Avenue Q won three Tony Awards.
I would have loved Caroline to win more.

Hey, FF, you wrote: "I'm glad that they won so much more than the critics were expecting."
What I read was that most critics would have preferred Q to win but just assumed that Wicked would. "Critics" were way way way more critical of Wicked than Q.
That's why I said what the critics "expected" and not what the critics "thought should win". But thanks for the constructive criticism.

I'm just tired. I read you wrong. I'm really reading wrong now. Three hours later or so.

I guess people can stop complaining about how OMGCORRUPT JUST OUT TO MAKE MONEY!!!! the tony voters are eh.
I love both Wicked and Avenue Q. The only thing that would have suited me was a tie.
I am impressed that the Q folks ran such an agressive (and obviously successful campaign), but I would have liked to see CAROLINE, OR CHANGE awarded Best Musical. It was nothing short of amazing.

Also, Grace, if you think about it, the producers stand to make a LOT more profit on a tour of Q than Wicked. Look at how the Millie tour hemorrhaged cash in many markets.
Wicked is good. Wicked is entertaining. (Wicked is a bit too long for my taste.) I enjoyed Wicked very much.
Wicked is not Avenue Q.
I think that either show winning would have been okay, I just think Avenue Q is far superior to Wicked.
There was a man behind me who knew Schwartz and he said during the break before best musical "they have to be nervous now, the night isnt going how they thought it would."
I, for one, am beside myself with happiness for Q.
