Looking at Travelocity, Times Square hotels are under $200 a night for July 4th week. Thats insane.

Well, most people get out of this city during that holiday weekend. It’s usually insufferable.

Folks getting out of the city aren't the ones booking hotel rooms in the city.

I don’t think New Yorkers are the ones booking hotels… unless you’re referring to tourists?
Anyway, look at any site for Manhattan hotels during a random weekend or weekday this summer and the rates are dirt cheap compared to what they usually are.
It's actually looking cheaper to spend a long weekend in NYC this summer than heading down the Jersey shore.

I was just down in Cape May, NJ last weekend. Almost every hotel & restaurant has a "help wanted" sign in their window(foreign students usually come over in the summer for work). The owners of the hotel we stayed at say bookings are down 40% from last year and their usual influx of Canadians hasn't booked anything this summer.

No surprise there. Not sure who would want to come to this idiot country right now.

And just when Las Vegas is tanking, the gaming industry is pushing nyc around to get its hand in the pockets of our dwindling tourists.

Yeah, I know it’s bad when my mom told me that there were hotels in the city up on her timeshare

U.S. Travel Exports Reach Record High in First Six Months of 2025

Not sure I trust those statistics given the how open the administration has been about their willingness to produce only positive statistics. I mean. Maybe! But. I dunnoh.
I wish we had more reliable independent and/or unbiased reporting.

I imagine some of the national tourism-related associations will provide reliable reporting on the number of visitors.

There's really no point for you to post State Media reports anymore. If it has a .gov in it, it's useless.
My flights to the UK continue to be sold out and my flights back home continue to be virtually empty.
So people are going there and staying there?
How many new Broadway closed this year? The few times I visited NYC this summer, it was strangely quiet. Then we have Vegas seeing record low turnout, Disneyland and Disney world offer steep discounts this summer (which is very rare), and cruise lines slowly reducing their rates.

I think the point was that there are more people visiting there than people visiting here. (Correct me if I am wrong Jordan)
But I have been reading about people moving out of the country. I have 6 friends that have done it.
That’s exactly right. I always speak to the flight attendants about it because it’s so noticeable.
But if they are visitors, that means they also come back, no?

Yes and no. I have not seen recent stats, but it is not uncommon that US travelers head to London and use it as a launching point to visit other European cities and then return from there.
Given the exorbitant UK taxes on flight tickets it often is cheaper. I regularly fly into London and return from Paris. The difference in taxes more than offsets my Eurostar train from London to Paris.
Exactly. The uk is the problem, not USA. Paris and France is a million times better than anything the uk has. Including those wonderful French cabarets. I hope they can revive their vaudeville tradition, they invented it and still have it a little bit. New York and London is all plays and musicals no diversity whatsoever.
