You are not wrong at all! It's gonna win best revival! Parade is probably one of the most underrated musicals out there right now. I'm just happy it's finally getting the recognition it deserves. Plus, this is the first time it's been revived on Broadway. More and more people are getting to know this musical and the story it tells. I just hope after it concludes its run, that it goes on tour! More people need to know the story behind it. Especially with the recent rise in antisemitic hate around the country lately.
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
Groban is in great voice in SWEENEY and giving a solid performance -- but everyone KNEW he would. The momentum is building for J Harrison Ghee -- especially now that every other day we have another state passing laws that are denying trans rights.
One of the few times I’ve ever seen this article mean anything was in 2009. Haydn Gwynne in Billy Elliot had the initial momentum for Featured Actress in a Musical. Karen Olivo who had strong reviews in WSS was the “Will and Should Win” for both Brantley and Isherwood, and it was like you could literally feel the momentum shift in the industry, leading to her actual win. That doesn’t happen often. Nowadays, these predictions are kind of humorous.
Ghee’s momentum shot up fast and slid over the winter and early spring until Sweeney arrived. There is now a momentum for SWEENEY & Groban - who is excellent - and the title figure of the show. Many more are seeing it, being the latest to open, and it's not another City Center staged concert.
Arden WON'T win for Director as most know the staging was done by the 2 member choreography team who were not nominated. The flying trapeze dead girl …?
Leopoldstadt has it nabbed. Comer will win.
BAM Cyrano, Wedding Band and Oresteia were better than most plays on Broadway this season. Many of the performances too. Shows should be glad they aren't eligible to win."
NY NY producers must be pulling their hair out that Green didnt/couldnt review it; he clearly liked it a hella lot more than most did (best score? best actress?).
These are silly in terms of predictability value (I dont think they are any more connected to the Tony voting body than anyone else) but always interested to see who they have soft spots for, who they think was left out. Never understood why they include Off Bway, or dont just do a separate category of "better stuff i saw off bway"
Green mostly predicted the winners last year. Those that weren't correct were "should win" choices. The only exception "Best Revival of A Play" (Will/Should Win: Trouble in Mind). Take Me Out was the frontrunner to most in the industry -- and won.

i dont remember what he predicted but other than Deidre OConnell's win, were they many close tough-to-call categories last year?
