What’s the point of including things that aren’t eligible? I suppose it’s a way to call out great work, but, like, they know the Tonys only cover Broadway.
I love this list every year. Although, I wish they would put the two critic's pick beside each other for easier comparison. I always love their inclusion of random shows and performers not on the list. Any avid watcher of "Theatre Talk" will remember, when ask what Jesse Green was looking forward to in any season, he would always rhyme off Off-Broadway work, and many smaller pieces.
"Ok ok ok ok ok ok ok. Have you guys heard about fidget spinners!?" ~Patti LuPone
Literally the only things I agree with on this batpoop crazy article is that DANCIN’ should’ve been nominated (kicking out CAMELOT) and Kolton Krouse should’ve been nominated (since there was more than enough room for a 6th nominee)

Chase Miller said: "There's no way Groban is going to win for Sweeney Todd."
Um, I beg to differ! Groban gave a masterclass performance. It's gonna be EXTREMELY close between him and Ghee. Frankly, I think this will be Groban's year. I'm seeing Some Like it Hot this weekend, so my thoughts could change but it's unlikely.
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Also, Michael Arden WILL win Best Director of a Musical, without a doubt! I do agree with Green that Lear deBessonett should win for ITW. Sadly, the run ended almost five months ago. Shows that have already closed, preferably musicals, lower their chances of winning. ITW was just magnificent in its own way! Let's also just take a moment to recognize that we had TWO critically acclaimed City Center productions on Broadway this season! When was the last time something like that happened?

Once again, I completely fail to see the logic in including shows that were not Tony-eligible in these lists. Also, Audra McDonald as "Will Win" for Best Actress over Jodie Comer (or even Jessica Chastain)... that's just outright foolish.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
This is the stupidest article they publish every year.
These critics are truly terribly awards prognosticators. Some of the choices are true headscratchers.
And they continue to insist on saying productions not covered by the Tony Awards "should have been nominated" for the Tony Awards. That's completely illogical. If you want to shine a spotlight on Off-Broadway and beyond, by all means please do it. But this is just silly. As it is every year. Do they think they are actually saying something important by saying Off-Broadway shows should be nominated for a Broadway award???
The only thing I take from these articles every year are the critics’ personal preferences of who should win. Everything else is just so wildly uninformed and nonsensical. (But Dancin’ and Krouse should have been included, I do agree.)
I really think Parade will win best revival. Maybe I’m wrong.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
