The King and I is a pretty perfect film adaptation, but cutting Shall I Tell You What I Think of You? (which was recorded for the soundtrack and maybe filmed but now lost) was a mistake...

"I Have Dreamed"...is to me the most perfect R & H love song, and to have it cut from the most perfect film of The King & I was a major disappointment to me...i used to sing that song to myself dreaming of the man i wanted to have in my life..so yeah...a great loss...

With the possible exception of Sacha Baron Cohen's performance, I don't find anything worthwhile about the Sweeney Todd adaptation, especially the way they eviscerated the score.
I mean, why even make a movie version if you need to cut so much brilliant music to make it more cinematic? I can live without "City on Fire," but cutting "Kiss Me" killed me, and eliminating "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd" was unforgivable (even if Sondheim agreed). Not to mention cutting whole verses from individual songs.
IMO the movie was a train wreck. And casting Johnny Depp certainly didn't help. I guess Russell Crowe wasn't available?

The tornado sequence in the new “Wiz” stage show is horrible! The song was completely changed (not for the better) and is unforgettable. The original score and staging (woman dancer wearing a cloth headdress that covered the stage) was phenomenal!

GUYS AND DOLLS - "I've Never Been in Love Before." The replacement was a big hit "The Eyes of a Woman In Love," but wasn't all that great.
BELLS ARE RINGING - "Long Before I Knew You."
