There's a pretty crazy Comet group on Facebook where you'd fit right in...

Posted: 2/18/18 at 4:37amThere is a big pile of N&P Great Comet coffee-table books on the remainder table at Barnes & Noble at Broadway and West 82 Street. I think it was marked down to around $10.00.

I miss Great Comet as well. It didn't deserve to close. If only people didn't make Mandy Patinkin replacing Oak Onaodowan a big deal, then it would've lasted a bit longer. But the show would've probably closed by the end of 2017 or early 2018 anyway.

I loved the show and "mourned" it's too early closure -- but CoolDoge is right....it was never going to be a long running show. Calling for a revival within a year of its closing is just silly.
Will we ever see it? I have no idea, but would be happy to see it again in the future. Heck, I'm wondering when they might release the rights, I'd love to figure out if I could direct it!

Sorry.
Not going to happen anytime in the foreseeable future.
Last time I looked, the producers lost their money on this.
Why would it get a fast encore?
Of course, considering the great success of the national tour, and the ongoing productions in London, Toronto, and Sydney that didn't have the stunt-casting fail...
(yeah, me neither)
Can we be real a second -- Can we please admit that this show's even marginal financial draw was a certain pop vocalist who (mostly) sang one song in the show? I cant speak for all, but the night I saw the show, there were a lot of folks there to just see Groban. Once he was gone, the gig was up -- unless they could find a similar draw. Credit to the producers -- they tried. Didn't work out. (Might not have worked out even if it had stayed open.)

Posted: 2/18/18 at 12:11pmI love the show too! And I wish it didnt close as early as it did. But you will probally never see a revival on broadway in your lifetime. You will probally get to experince a Reunion concert but not a full fledged revival.

Arent all productions "preserved" for either Lincoln Center or some other repository, or for the Producers?
I've assumed that they are

I think all of us, me included, could benefit by pausing for a minute before we hit "Post Message."

There's several bootlegs floating around.

But I thought they announced a tour? Maybe they can team up with the upcoming Spider-Man tour.

Posted: 2/18/18 at 2:13pmI, too, have a very special place in my heart for this show and was sad to see it go so soon. Though I don’t think that anyone - myself included - ever really thought that it would have great staying power and become a long-runner. It’s an intimate show with a niche audience and isn’t marketable to the masses without a name like Groban, and even then, it still struggles. I’m sure that productions will pop up over the next several years.

I love the show, and it has a special place in my heart. Really glad we got to see it before it closed!
I was also lucky enough to see Ghost Quartet in Seattle last month. In reflection, I'd really like to see a scaled-down version of Great Comet in a more intimate venue - I hope some good regional productions will pop up in that way. For all that I enjoyed the spectacle of the Broadway staging, I think there are some interesting things that could be done on a smaller scale.

I can't think of any character that only sang one song in this show.

They were all ensemble members, too, no one only sang during only one song in Comet.

Yes, but having one solo is not equal to singing one song. I'm rarely serious in silly threads. ![]()

As much as I adored the Broadway version, for me it was never quite as wonderful as in the more intimate Kazino setting. That remains one of my favorite theatre going experiences. Unfortunately I didn’t see it at Ars Nova.

I am also a huge fan of the Great Comet - but I know it won't be revived on Broadway anytime soon. I am just hoping for some sort of tour or regional production out here in California.

The Kazino staging was much better than Broadway. Sadly most are only acquainted with the Broadway production even when it was a much better piece Off Broadway.
