I watched it prior to NYTW run on YouTube.
I've seen clips:
2013 West End proshot: Old Friends and Franklin Shepard Inc starring Mark Umbers, Damian Humbley, and Jenna Russell.
2017 Boston (Huntington): Merrily We Roll Along, Now You Know and Opening Doors starring Umbers, Humbley, and EDEN ESPINOSA!!!! My favorite Mary is Eden! Plus some behind the scenes and teaser trailer.

hahaha that is definitely 100% marketing hype. But if that means the capture is done well, great.

Sonia Friedman also said in that interview that Maria Friedman has spent the last six months almost full-time on the editing of the film. Sonia saw a near final version last week.

Doing it we is difficult. My two favorites are Rent Live on Broadway, which really captured the frenetic every of the original production, and Miss Saigon, which really did have a cinematic quality to it.
Many of the others are rather stagnant, the recently released capture of Frozen being one of the worse offenders. After revisiting the filmed iteration of Hamilton over the weekend, I was surprised by how bla of a capture it was.

The trailer for the Merrily film was with the Hamilton screening in some locations.

I didn't read your post carefully enough to see that you caught that "Adele Dazeem" moment, too. ![]()

Sondheim’s ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ Was a Flop, Then a Hit. Now It’s a Film.

I caught a screening last night. It was a bit shaky at first with editing, sound, and finding its visual footing. But it settled in and is a very nice document of the production. A lot of closeups.
I think the younger generations will cherish and learn from this film and that makes me happy.

Not much review in this column from a freelance NYT contributor, but I guess any coverage is better than none in the current New York Times.

Agree that it takes a solid 10 minutes to sink into this; the opening is hectic as-is, but the quick cutting is a bit bewildering to watch. The men come off far stronger than the women, I think. I'm not sure if Krystal Joy Brown's performance landed better in the theater, but on screen, it feels out of balance with her costars, who are giving more naturalistic performances. It also sometimes felt strange that some of it was filmed with an audience and some wasn't - I almost missed the laughter or applause or at least the consistency of their presence. The ensemble is terrific and I love that each got a moment to shine directly into the camera.
I hope Sondheim is smiling down on what a hit this production turned out to be. Can't wait to see it again!
I'm impressed by how much Groff brought to the shallow protagonist. And kudos to the actress who did something with dishrag Beth. I wish this story didn't revolve so much around Gussie the femme fatale. She's an absolute cartoon here, making Frank seem stupid for sacrificing everything for her. His friends, on the flip side, are too saintly. The same director found more grit in these roles in her 2013 London production.
