Victoria Clark has a leave of absence coming up in mid to late November, and while she's away the role of Mother Superior will be played by...
Carolee Carmello.
Nice. Not at all someone I would've thought of to replace Victoria Clark, but I'm sure she'll be wonderful.
They really seem to go all over the place with casting this role. Sheila Hancock to Whoopi Goldberg to Sally Dexter to Victoria Clark and now Carolee Carmello. Quite an interesting assortment.
Holy crap. Hope they announce the exact dates soon. In the city the 15th-20th and looking to ditch my Anything Goes/Blockhead tix anyways. Just saw Carolee in Saving Aimee in Seattle. She was phenomenal. One of Broadway's most underused talents...
Holy crapping crap. Time to get off my ass and get down there!

No way! Adam, do you know how long Carmello will be in the role for? I might have to catch the show again if I'm in town when she's in it...
One of Broadway's most underused talents...
Hardly. She has not been away from Broadway in a very long time and has done several shows in the past decade.
I more meant the roles she's been cast in snootypants!
Sorry, love - don't mean to sound snobby. But the lead roles in Scarlet Pimpernel, Mamma Mia! , Urinetown and Kiss Me, Kate don't really scream "underused" to me.
Does anyone know what's going on with Clark? Jennifer Allen (her understudy) has said publicly that she's on as Mother Superior now through November 19th.
I'm not sure where you heard this information about Carmello, adamgreer, but the dates you're projecting for Clark to have another hiatus don't seem to match up with the length of time she is currently out of the show, unless she's already gone and they're just waiting for Carmello to return from doing SAVING AIMEE in Seattle.

Wouldn't there have been announcement if Clark had left permanently?
I'm going Thursday. I'm bummed I'm going to miss Clark.
Imagine Carolee as Diana in NEXT TO NORMAL. She'd be phenomenal.
I agree, steven22.
SAVING AIMEE needs a lot of work (and I don't know if it can ever really get there,) but Carmello's performance is unreal. What she does is on par with the type of work we've seen in recent years from Alice Ripley in NEXT TO NORMAL, Christine Ebersole in GREY GARDENS, and Tonya Pinkins in CAROLINE, OR CHANGE in a role that's more physically and vocally demanding than all three of those combined (with material that's nowhere near as good.)
If it ever came to New York, it wouldn't be a hit by any means, but it would certainly be one hell of a moment for Carmello.

She was actually strongly considered for the role of diana but alas it was not meant to be.
Carmello should have won the TONY for PARADE.
I wish she were doing CARRIE, I like Mazie a lot but Carmello's voice has more bite and vocal shadows for me.
She has had a great Broadway career, varied and full.
Trisha Rapier, not Jennifer Allen, was on this weekend.
!!! Awesome! I just love Carmelo. She and Nathan were the only two who made Addams Family worth watching. And I loved her in A Class Act. Can't wait!

Someone on twitter indicated that Clark has indeed left the show permanently. Is there any truth to that?
^ Broadwayfan12: What tweet was that?
It seems strange there hasn't been any sort of announcement yet.
I just did a search and it came up with nothing, so either the tweet's been deleted or it was private.

Looks like it has been deleted. I guess it's either it's untrue or the news wasn't supposed to be out yet. It wasn't a cast member who tweeted it, so who knows?
I've also heard Clark isn't returning. She was wonderful, but looks like I'll be back if this Carolee rumor turns out true.
This is not a rumor. It's very, very true. Definitely happening.
