The Frogs has its opening "fanfare." Not exactly a traditional overture, but it's close...

Dracula has opening music which was cool - dripping blood sounds, vampires chanting, the whole shebang!

Spamalot has a short overture. It was longer when I saw the show in Chicago - with a few laughs as it "quoted" famous pieces of popualr and classical music.

Brooklyn doesnt, it has like 10 seconds of music then the show starts besides it has no intermission.

Little Women has one but it's only around a minute long. I used to get bored at traditional shows with 3 minute overtures, but now I miss them re: New musicals with overtures

Wow; I somehow suspected that fewer recent shows would bother with overtures. I remember taking a lifetime theater-deprived friend to Gypsy, and she completely didn't understand why the orchestra was playing but nothing was happening. I told her to wait for the trumpet solo. :)

Plum - you are so right about the Gypsy overture - I love the trumpet part... Accuradio has a whole channel devoted just to overtures - it's where I get my fix re: New musicals with overtures

Little Women's overture is essentially just playing I'd Be Delighted, with a tiny bit of extra music, however, an overture nonetheless.
