Just curious about what you guys think who could be the next Dolly.
Personally, I would love to see Christine Baranski in this role. I felt like she could make a fresh Dolly, besides she hasn't been back for decades.
Baranski is a FABULOUS pick!
I'm hoping to see Dolly Parton in this production myself.

I don't remember who posted it, but someone commented on here about Dolly doing Dolly and they said she had already been approached, but her voice is mostly gone apparently and can't do it. If you look up recent concert videos of Dolly she's using the same vocal tracks for all the shows :/
The rumor is that we'll get Betty Buckley for a month or so after Bernadette prior to the tour, and then a bigger name for the fall.
Please make Christine Baranski happen! She's been away from the Broadway stage for far too long (no matter how much I loved The Good Wife and love The Good Fight) and Dolly would be a fantastic role for her.

Personally I'd like Christine Ebersole or Patti LuPone. With Laura Benanti as Irene Molloy

I'd buy a ticket in a heartbeat.
Won't be surprised if it's Reba
I went to see Hey, Look Me Over at City Center last weekend, and Vanessa Williams did a couple of numbers wearing a stunning red dress. I don't know if it was the dress or not, but my friend and I looked at each other and said Dolly! Williams sounded great and had wonderful stage presence. I'm usually not such a big fan of hers, but she really sold her songs. I bet she would make a thrilling Dolly and also sell well.

I'm sure they want to have "bigger names" but I would love to see Carolee Carmello.
If I'm being more realistic, Audra McDonald.

Yup, Betty after Bernadette prior to the tour

I had the same thought about Vanessa Williams. Those songs weren't much to work with and she was playing herself, but she sold the hell out of it and she's so charismatic. She might be the right fit if they want someone Bette-esque, a Broadway name with mass appeal and recognition.

I saw Christine Ebersole and Kevin Kline chatting on the street the other day and thought they'd be a great Dolly/Horace pairing.

Y'know, just a casual, everyday occurrence, lol!
Why are we limiting ourselves to star casting Dolly? I wouldn’t mind a big name as Irene or Cornelius.
Why would a big name want to step into a supporting role? Furthermore, why would the producers want to pay their salaries?

This remains my strong hope. I'd also love seeing Queen Latifah, as was rumored ages and ages ago, but that seems highly unlikely.
Goldie Hawn would be a perfect Dolly! With Kurt Russell as her Horace? @Scott Rudin please make it happen!
Audra would be fantastic!

THis makes me wet
I’m thinking it is Reba. Her name is the one I am hearing the most. She is performing in Vegas through the summer, though, so she wouldn’t come in before early fall.
