Oh hell no! This is an affront to Glenn Close. You want a real movie star? Yea choose Nicole, see what’ll happen to you
Hmm Andrew giving support isn’t the same as starting a project. He gave Glenn his full support for decades and that didn’t happen. The truest missed opportunity in showbiz history. Although considering it was meant to be Rob Ashford at the helm, maybe it’s for the best…
The question is, does Paramount want anything else of Sunset put on film ever again, and do they want it to look like Jamie Lloyd’s production?

I love Glenn but she has aged out of this part.
A Sunset Blvd film musical is never going to materialize.
If it ever did, I'd want it to be with Gaga rather than Nicole, who I loved onstage.
Can we be honest, Glenn still gave one of the best performances I’ve ever seen, but the show is mostly a slog to get through. Everything in that house works, but when you open it up to the outside forces ( the other romance etc ) it all comes to a crashing boring halt,

What don’t you people understand, it needs to be a MOVIESTAR in the role, not some d-list pop star. GLENN CLOSE is MAGNIFICENT, Nicole’s performance was trash and I wish someone pulled a Kanye on her a$$ at the Tony’s and said “I’m gonna let you finish, but Audra gave one of the greatest performances of all time.” If anyone stars in the sunset boulevard movie musical it needs to be GLENN, the GREATEST STAR OF ALL. If they do indeed want someone younger, the only one even remotely suitable for it is Rosamund Pike.

That's what made the recent revival so good. For once I wasn't bored by the stuff outside the mansion.

I agree I would not want Nicole in a film....if they cant have Glenn Close because of her age(even though i think she still would bring it) they could do what they did in Cabaret film amd what they are doing in Kiss of Spiderwoman film., and leave the musical numbers to Norma or when anyone is in the mansion.

I was more bored than ever! Is there a more idiotic, generic, and pointlessly placed ballad on musical theater than "Too Much In Love To Care"? Just cruel.
My dream role for Sunset (which will never happen) would have been Cyndi Lauper. Now THAT'S a take I would have loved to have seen.
Having seen Glenn’s insanely glorious Norma a handful of times in 1995, I hated her approach in the 2017 concert-style revival. Her choice of turning Norma into a cartoon with those crazy eyes and mugging and milking the laughs was heartbreaking. It was a completely different interpretation from what she originally did in 1995 and watching the audience at the Palace Theatre laughing during her final staircase decent at the end was upsetting.

I completely agree. I love Glenn on the cast album, and I have seen clips of her from the LA run and the ALW concert. I think she is mesmerizing, so I was disappointed when I saw the 2017 revival and she seemed more like Auntie Mame. Some people said she seemed more "human" but she just seemed deflated to me. The Sherzinger revival was so much better in every way.
The window for the perfect version is really gone, sadly. It should have been Glenn and Hugh Jackman, filmed around 2000.
Nothing else will ever live up to that potential. No matter who eventually plays Norma, many will watch it and think “Yeah she’s good, but this should have been Glenn.”

I’ve seen lots of clips of the original production, I think Glenn toned it down for the revival. Especially the scene where she’s looking at her old films. Absolutely gorgeous in both. In the revival, she just sat there wide eyed like a little girl as Ben Brantley described. It was truly mesmerizing.
Was just looking at the ages of Swanson, Close and Nicole when they played the part and also how old Norma Desmond was supposed to be. This archived interview with Close popped up. It was done a few days before opening in L.A. It discusses age further into the interview and Patti is mentioned.

I don't think on an artistic level a film adaption of Sunset: The Sunset Boulevard musical can ever really be justified. Which means Paramount would have produce it for financial reasons and there is no financial incentive. The perpetual problem with Sunset is that it's not going to generate any cash without a star yet it costs so much that it's near impossible to be profitable while paying a star salary.
There’s also the simple reality that the original film is a masterpiece. We don’t need a remake.

In the original 1950 film, it is made clear Norma Desmond is 50 years old. In the musical adaptation, it is also made clear in the text numerous times. Oddly enough, most people assume Norma is a crazy old woman in her 70s. Most actresses who’ve tackled the musical role were under 50 when they played the role. LuPone was 44, both Close and Buckley were 47, Linda Balgord of the 1st US Tour was 36, Paige was 48, Scherzinger was 45. Gloria Swanson was 49 during filming of the original film.

Which doesn’t make sense anymore. The biggest Hollywood actresses are all older than 50. This is why the Glenn revival worked much better than the Nicole revival.
I would love a film adaptation that was more realistic than stylized (aka Lloyd & Co). A further fantastical pipe dream is an homage to both Wilder’s film and Napier’s mansion design…
A Sunset film may not realistically happen until someone like Gaga or Beyonce wants to produce & star. Speaking of both, I still dream of that scrapped Eastwood ASIB remake with Bey and Bradley Cooper. What could have been…
I heard rumors about a 2 or 3 week revival of this production in London, especially for filming the show. That might be a better idea than an actual film version. Especially with this cast and this direction. An actual film would have to match the style and era of the actual lyrics they are singing and be much more sincere and realistic.
The way they could film the show can be very creative, camera's backstage, on-stage, etc, maybe even combine it with footage of Joe walking around at the actual Paramount studio's in LA, singing his song there, in a cab, and then cut to him walking into the theatre in London, or whatever.

They sound like a previous poster here who has now had several different screen names. They just can't help themselves.

Idiot, Glenn Close is 78 years old. She is no longer viable for this role.
