Wasn’t that the case with A Doll’s House and other Jamie Lloyd productions, as well as several Van Hove productions or the recent Oklahoma. Some people just don’t like minimalist productions, no matter how good they are to those of us who think they are great.

I hope it transfers to the Shubert or another theatre on 44th so that you can do the walking sequence of Act 2 in the alleyway by the Junior Cheesecake. As for casting, I wonder if they will bring Tom Francis over or if they will cast someone else such as Derek Klena in the role.

I can't imagine this is going to transfer in March when it ends its run in London in January.
I have to think Nicole will want some kind of a break and not just 4 weeks or so between closing in London and then starting rehearsal in what, Mid-February for a run that will be ATLEAST a six month commitment? And as someone else mentioned the Oliviers aren't until March, if this is transferring wouldn't you want that momentum behind you before you come in to New York? I also would guess that most of the ensemble will be recast due to Equity requirements.
Also someone brought up the Shubert, it is very likely Hell's Kitchen has that theater unless they have decided to push the transfer into next season but based on conversations with cast members they expect to being opening in the spring, the majestic also will likely not be ready for a tenant until the summer.

So.. what’s the latest on the transfer?
Azúcar! said: "So.. what’s the latest on the transfer?"
The latest was more on a cast recording with Nicole Scherzinger saying on I believe Michael Ball's radio show the other day "I think it's happening" - and others chiming in that the word is right after it closes in Januuary they'll record it? I guess that's a newer trend (like Sunday in the Park with George with Jake Gyllenhal did in 2017)
The way things are going, I'm not expecting any big announcements during the Christmas season. The show in the West End is pretty much sold out for the remainder of its run. Might as well let them finish on a high note and then make these announcements to keep momentum in January when things are quieter

On the other board there is a rumored return London engagement before the transfer gets announced. I was hoping they would announce on closing night of this engagement. Such a splendid night in the theater.
frank dilela said they are fast tracking this to broadway. that sounds like this season to me.

But where would they put it? The only thing open, The Golden, would be FAR too small for it. Are they going to swing hard and go into the Broadway? That would probably provide a pretty good route for the title number and would give them some fantastic shots of Times Square as he goes in the front doors.
People keep talking about the majestic, so maybe there. There also could potentially be shows closing in the next two months so we’ll see. I was thinking either Old Friends or Dear England would go to the Broadway Theatre

Dear England is already locked for The Golden I believe. The Majestic won't be ready for the Spring given reports of the state of the interior from glimpses folks have gotten from the street.
But yes, there will be closing announcements coming I am sure. The Barrymore being one that could very likely open up quickly. Belasco another.

Deadline says the transfer will be next November

"EXCLUSIVE: Starring an electrifying Nicole Scherzinger, Sunset Boulevard ends its limited run at London’s Savoy Theatre on January 6. However, Deadline can reveal in its 2024 West End look ahead that the singer will lead the Andrew Lloyd Webber show to Broadway in November, according to insiders connected with the production.
Scherzinger, who won the Evening Standard’s (ES) best musical performance prize for her show-stopping turn as Norma Desmond, has indicated to producers that she will commit to a six-month season in New York, we understand. The ES also recently named the show’s helmer Jamie Lloyd as Best Director [disclosure: this writer is a member of the ES judging panel]."

This is the most interesting-to-me tidbit about SUNSET:
A long-rumored screen adaptation, set to star Glenn Close who won a Tony for her interpretation, has been put on hold and there has been a lot of chatter about the possibility of Scherzinger taking on the role should a feature get the green light.
I wouldn't believe a Scherzinger-led film any more than I'd believe a Close-led one, to be clear, but I WOULD be interested in seeing Jamie Lloyd try his hand at a feature film. And a modern-dress, super-indie, surrealist adaptation of Sunset would be a great way to avoid comparisons to Billy Wilder.

You are entitled to your opinion but that sounds absolutely horrendous to me. That may work on stage but film is a very different beast. If we have to make a movie out of this, we might as well wait another decade for Gaga to do it. Glenn needs to move on.
Oh I'm not saying a Lloyd film adaptation would be guaranteed to be good (and at a minimum it would be Controversial), but give me that over whatever Rob Ashford was going to give us with 75-year-old Glenn Close.
But yes, I agree Gaga is ideal casting for Norma. Or Anne Hathaway.
There will be a lot of disappointed tourists.
Wonder then if Nicole will do “Death Becomes Her” in Chicago this summer.

I'm such a Scrooge when it comes to movie musicals...give me the Wilder film any day! But if Gaga is involved I'm always there. :)

Or there will be tourists who buy a ticket expecting one thing and discovering something altogether new and exciting. I swear the people who have daggers out for this production tickle me. Ya'll know you don't have to see it right?

Please, not Anne Hathaway. She didn't sing in Les Miserables; she recited lines over background music.
More important who will be the Tuesday evening Norma…

It would never happen but I'd kill to see Sherie Rene Scott in this production.
