You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree. ~Dirty Rotten Scoundrels~
There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel. ~Curtains~
It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known. ~A Tale of Two Cities ~
I have my Master's in Biomedical Engineering (eponine88, it's a great field to go into with a lot of career opportunities) and am almost a PhD in Industrial Engineering and Communication. Always loved theater and performing, but was in touch with the reality that I'm good....but not THAT good.
I'm a former Theater Major who is now majoring in Music Industry at my local community college. When I transfer in a year I will be studying Music Merchandising or Music Marketing, depending on what school I go to. I also plan to minor in theater. I love acting and its all that I dream about. But I'm accustomed to a certain lifestyle and I don't want to lose it to become a actress. I'll be content doing community theater, dinner theaters, what ever comes my way. As long as Im acting in some shape or form. Maybe I'll be like Sherri Renee Scott, and have my own record label and act. That would make me happy!
I'm currently getting a dual masters in Early Childhood General and Special Education at Columbia University.
What is your dream role?
My dream role would be to be myself. To be performing at the Hollywood Bowl and to have an audience there just to see me, as Stephanie. They are there because they like what I do as a singer, an artist and a person (the last being the most important). I enjoy escaping and portraying other characters, but to be accepted and wanted as yourself... that's amazing! --Stephanie J. Block
Just one of the many reasons I admire and respect Stephanie!!
Wow! Some very well-rounded folks posting here. Don't be afraid to show your intelligence on these boards. I (for one) would love to see more of it in the threads.
EDIT: I didn't mean for that to sound like you're all a bunch of "stupid posters." Sorry if it did. I just have seen a lot of dumbed-down answers and comments lately.
...as for me... I started out as a Business major (English minor, with double scholarships for Voice and Viola), then switched to Music Education, then Music Composition, and finally Theatre-Voice Major. And then I quit... because I was already in Actors' Equity and working professionally in theatre. I thought "why bother?" I knew enough already.
I didn't.

i'm an advertising design major at one of the top art schools in philadelphia. I just happen to be starring in, directing, choreographing, and designing (sets, costumes, posters) a long dragged out production of chicago.(my girlfriend is still not thrilled about the time , and chorus girls involved)
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Cultural Studies and Media Major with a concentration in Technology and Popular Culture. Or at least hope to be, I'm in the process of trasferring schools and that is what I'll study if I get accepted into Eugene Lang. Currently I'm studying Communication Design & Graphic Arts at CUNY Tech, I used to go to SUNY New Paltz where I was a Public Relations Major with a minor in Black Studies.
So I've moved around a bit but generally stick to the communications field

I'm a double major...forensic psychology and deviant behavior and social control.
Sponsor me as I walk the Philadelphia AIDS Walk - Sunday, October 16, 2011. Many of our friends, family and neighbors are in desperate need of health care services and other life-saving programs, but with cutbacks in government dollars , these programs are often under-funded. Now, more than ever, your donations are needed to support organizations providing HIV/AIDS awareness, prevention education, counseling and testing and care services for people living with HIV/AIDS.

I am an ER physician in private practice. I was NOT premed in college...I did lots of liberal arts, theater, etc and had a blast. You do not need to be premed to go to med school...just take the prerequisities as your electives. Major in something that you ENJOY and you will get better grades anyway because you are happy. You have your whole life to devote to medicine. Make yourself well-rounded in college, do something you can enjoy and keep up your skills as long as possible. Unfortunately, once you enter medical school (then residency, then practice) there is very little time to pursue personal interests, especially something as intense as performing in a show. That being said, I believe anyone can accomplish anything and you should pursue whatever dreams you have!
Art History major with a Visual Arts concentration here (though I've yet to file the paperwork to officially "declare" it). Thinking about minoring in French, just cuz I like it :)
I would love to be a Theatre major, but my school's theatre department is a bit hard to deal with. First off, they won't let you take even the most basic of intro to acting courses without an audition, and I audition pretty badly, so they totally snubbed me and wouldn't let me participate in anything. That was a nasty bit of a shock, as I'd really hoped to continue my involvement in theatrical productions (I'd done straight shows and musicals in high school). Now I'm too embarrassed to go back and try for anything else. So I guess that was the end of that. I guess I could always do community theatre tho...if I end up moving to a small town somewhere. :P
I have a bachelors in computer science (minor in economics). I'm currently working in that field also.
I've never been interested in theatre as a career. (I'm not that good at singing or acting.)
I wasn't heavily involved in high school [mostly bc of politics and other interests]. I played violin 10+ years and was semi-involved in theatre on occasion.
What did this do? I grew up with an appreciation for music and theatre. I like going to plays and musicals and listening to orchestras. That's all that matters, right?
BM, clarinet/English horn performance major, minor studies in violin/viola/cello, flute, and bassoon; The Juilliard School, class of '00.
Suzanne: I never use catalogs. I'd rather go in the store and see all the salespeople groveling and sucking up to you.
Julia: Pardon me, I never knew they were so solicitous at the K-Mart.
I'm getting my BA in Liberal Arts...oh, Sarah Lawrence...we don't do the whole major/minor thing. I'm in the theatre program, but I'm also taking a lot of literature and art history. I realized that it doesn't matter what my degree is in for my career choices.
