Hmm, idk if I would like a musical version. The movie was very sad (not that that is any reason it shouldn't be made into a musical). I don't think it would even do very well as a musical, quite honestley.

Most musicals come from a previous text or source material. Rarely is something COMPLETELY original.

Oh, please. "non-original" musicals are hardly a new phenomenon, and some of the greatest musicals written have come from some form of source material. Time to retire this knee-jerk reaction.

If I had a dollar for every time someone complained that there aren't enough 'original' musicals, I would be able to personally finance several Broadway shows.

Agreed. All this whining about "recent" movies. And "original" musicals. Enough to make ya want to hurl. The same folks who complain about adapting classic movies.

I assume the source material would be the acclaimed book which was the source material for the acclaimed film. Same as Gypsy, Big River, Camelot, Damn Yankees, Les Miserables, Ragtime, the list goes on and on and on because NOTHING is truly original and many texts lend themselves well to musicalization.

I heard the demo. The songs "Stealing Some Chicken" and "Catch This TV, Bitch" are absolute show stoppers.

im just sick of movies getting turned into mediocre musicals. some work but most dont and onyl survive a couple months on broadway. ALTHOUGH if we didnt have movies being turned into musicals than we wouldnt have the front runners for tonys. (aka Once,newsies) Either way its getting annoying. I remember a thread a couple months ago about a AUSTIN POWERS MUSICAL coming to broadway?? ehh

Jordan, after the first workshop it was changed. "Stealing Some Chicken" is now "I Just Took A Ten Piece/Barfed In A Waste Basket."

Mary Jones Act 1 Showstopper "Hit With A Skillet" was reinstated.
