THE VISIT at the Signature Theatre, Arlington back in May
THE HAPPY TIME - also at the Signature Theatre in May
SUNSET BOULEVARD at the Watermill in July
I didn't get to NYC in 2008 but I was there in the middle of December of 2007. My pick for show in NYC is August: Osage County. As far as performances on Broadway, Eve Best in The Homecoming. She just blew me away.
Locally, DCTC (Denver Center Theatre Company) did a world premiere of a new play called "Lydia". It was the most stunning piece I saw this past year. Of the two shows and one performance I have mentioned, I think I would have to say that I would want to see "Lydia" again. I was about a young girl who is disabled (brain damaged) in a car accident. The family hires a maid named Lydia and she connects with the disabled daughter and the show just takes off from there. Onahoua Rodriguez played the daughter (Ceci). Words cannot describe this young lady's performance. Easily the most powerful performance and show I saw within the past year. It was written by Octavio Solis. I really hope it finds its way to NYC off-Broadway at least. It's a must see with a second act that just blew me away with all of the revelations in the story. It was extremely emotionally draining, but is a very good theatrical way.
edit: I just did a search and I see it is going to be done at the Marin Theatre Company in California starting in March. If you have the chance, see it. It won 3 local theatre awards including best play.

My top two shows to see would definitely be Sunday in the Park with George and [title of show] (my favorite shows of all time), closely followed by Gypsy (for obvious reasons), Xanadu (such a fun show, I loved every minute of it), and Curtains (because David Hyde Pierce makes my life).
This was clearly a year that can not be repeated again, financially speaking.
Pamela's First Musical
62nd Tony Awards
Mamma Mia Movie Premiere
Broadway on Broadway (camped out 4 hours in advance)
Xanadu
All About Eve Read through
Gypsy
Billy Elliot
DOUBT Premiere
Pal Joey
The Who's Tommy Reunion Concert
Total= More Than I am worth
Passing Strange. It close a month before I got to NYC and I would have seen it instead of SA for a second time.
Show:
[title of show] closing night. An orgy of love and support for the show I wouldn't have missed for the world.
Performance:
Cirque du Soleil's "Varekai" in Amsterdam. High as a kite and loved every minute of it.
I would go back to July to see LBB's last performance as Elle in Legally Blonde. It was funny, sad, energetic...truly a memorable performance. Definitely worth seeing again and again and again.
I just want to go back to my first time seeing AUGUST: OC, the show is good regardless, but there is nothing like seeing Amy Morton's thrilling and shocking "I'M RUNNING THINGS NOW!" for the first time.
BILLY ELLIOT and IN THE HEIGHTS are front-runners.
The Opening Night Performance of Shrek in Seattle (it was my 4th time seeing it (along with 3 rehearsals)) and I loved knowing that I had helped create this. And to be honest, Seattle doesnt get that kind of excitement very often, Sutton Foster, Chris Sieber. :) It was a great night, especially since I didnt have to spend any money on the ticket (comp ticket as a thanks for input in helping the show develop!). All the actors and Tesori/Abaire were so fun at stagedoor as well. It was a magical night.
Spring Awakening (I'm so predictable)
I wish I had seen Sunday in the Park with George.

Sunday. I can't believe that was only a year ago!
The last "xanadu" was something that I will never forget.
Faves that I would see every night:
"The Seafarer", "Billy Elliot" and "ITH"-

NUMBER ONE:
Patti LuPone 'Gypsy'
It is unbelievable how powerful these actors are. I was moved to laughter, gasps, and tears (a lot of them!)
NUMBER TWO:
South Pacific
What a thrill to be seeing such perfection. You could literally hear a pin drop from start to finish.
....For both of these shows....The lack of irony was so refreshing. Musicals need to be more-oft approached with the emotional, intellectual, and sensitive mindset...they are so much more meaningful, effective, and relevant as a result. A huge thank you to Mr. Laurents and Mr. Sher for helming these masterpiece musical productions.
it would definitely be watching 'gypsy' for the second time front row back in may. i saw the show a first time from one of the last rows in the balcony, so it was quite a change. plus i got some of the june's letter, which was a nice memento.
and maybe seeing 'cry-baby'. i don't think i've ever laughed so much at one show - not to be confused, i laughed in a positive way. i liked the show.
I would LOVE to see all 3 parts of the Beckett marathon (Lincoln Center) again -- each one was absolute perfection
But if I could go back and see one show again, it would be SEAFARER. It moved me more than any other show I've ever seen
(and 2008 was a milestone year for me -- this year I saw my 100th show in NYC (THE SEAGULL) and went to my first BC/EFA Flea Market. And it only took me 12 years )

How about, "wish I had seen this year"? Definitely "South Pacific' and "Sunday in the Park with George". Perhaps also "Gypsy", since the three actors in that one were about as top notch as a cast for that one can be (I'm also a fan of Boyd Gaines).
That I saw, of course, "A Tale of Two Cities", since I only got to see it in previews :[ Wicked, I would love to see again, but with different actors (wish I had seen Indina and Kristin in their run...).

1. closing show of Next to Normal at 2nd Stage
2. RENT 9/4
3. RENT 9/6 matinee
4. RENT Closing.
Definitely Rent. So much energy onstage and in the audience.
Opening night of [title of show]. I knew nothing of the show until that night.
Xanadu! Sitting on stage was an awesome experience, especially for the inner tech geek.
Clay. Not the Gayken. The best $20 I spent on theater this year was this little hip-hop, one-man musical.
