Love the Burrough. Didn't care for the Musical.
I saw this musical, and although the storyline was horrid I loved the actors. Eden Espinosa and Ramona Keller were amazing and they really belted these songs out like DIVAS! I can't blame them, only the people who did the storyline.

Totally agree with RentHead2 :) The story? Not so great. But oh wow, WHAT a showcase for the glories that are Eden and Ramona!! Good LORD can those girls sang like there is no tomorrow!! seriously, there was like, an infinite amount of times when I was listening to Eden going "damnnnnn, how is that note even POSSIBLE!?!?" she can rip it like no one else. hahaaha. And ramona singing Raven? same thing- maaaaybe even MOREso (but the thing about Eden is that she's white- its more rare for white girls to be able to sing like that I think hahah. I know, thats a total generalization but it is def true. More often then not, black people tend to have great voices and can belt really really well wheras with white people, not sooo much). So yeah... great songs for the most part (some I skip, but a lot I love), and UNBELIEVABLE voices :P They aaalmost even make up for all that is lacking in the story department. Like, I like watchig it *cough* even despite the bad story simply cause they're such amazing singers and performers

The book and lyrics are lame and cheesy. It's really the actors that make this show and they've been really lucky getting some good ones for both the Broadway show and the national tour.

yeah, when you analyze it, it's a pretty cheesy show. But in the hands of actor/singers like Eden Espinosa, they're able to make you believe the thing.

Um . . . . no.
It was a cheesey, preachy piece of crap. I don't mind musicals being a little preachy, but Brooklyn was too preachy.

I'll admit it is a little preachy. But the last time I checked, this was an appreciation thread, not an "I Hate Brooklyn" thread.
I didn't hate it at all actually! Compared to LESTAT the writing on this was award winning lol! Okay had to do it. However, seeing Eden Espinosa belt those songs out while sitting in 2nd row was completly mind blowing. The material blew, but wow the people they got to do that show. Eden's voice is amazing, I can't believe she understudied for anyone ever. But then again, it is Idina Menzel.

I appreciate it. I think it's an amazing show.
The show gave me a headache. I appreciated it when it was over.
Where's TinyToon when we need him?
I think Brooklyn was the most underestimated show that season. I loved it, but the book needed to be tweaked. If so, the show could have been a hit, still be running, and even if it stayed the same, Eden needed that Tony. NEEDED IT BAD! I saw in Wicked during Idina's break and in Brooklyn. She rocked.
I think Brokklyn was the most underestimated show that season.
Underestimated? Oh dear. How much more UNDER could one have estimated that it would turn out to be a critically slaughtered flop?

I read the spoof on the website. As much as I loved Brooklyn, that was actually pretty funny. Thanks for the laughs.
That was the best spoof. It should be on Forbidden Broadway

Explain to me how this show was amazing? You said, the show was amazing. Not the cast, so tell me how the show was amazing.
And how was it unestimated? The show was horrible. It has a horrible book, horrible lyrics, decent music, and a great cast. I think it got what the show deserved. It was bad children's theater. It was way too preachy and way to "life is good."

TinyToon (Dan Yoffe) has run away because we now know he steals people's money.

It looks like Joey Guerra of The Houston Voice doesn't so much appreciate Brooklyn as he appreciates the amazing talent of someone like Diana DeGarmo to transform the show into something watchable:
About five songs into Brooklyn, something startling happens.
Up until then, the musical, playing through Sunday at Miller Outdoor Theatre as Theatre Under The Stars’ annual free summer show, rolls bumpily along, unsure of itself. Much like the creative costumes and props, fashioned out of junk scraps and trash, the show seems a cobbled-together collage of cliches and ideas.
There’s streetwise sass, cartoonish comedy and dew-eyed sweetness. None seems too comfortable with the others. Then, Diana DeGarmo stands center stage and sings “Once Upon a Time,” the show’s first big money number.
Everything changes.
Interestingly enough, this is the same guy who gave Diana's debut CD a two star review in 2004. Evidently he's warmed up to her since then.
