Yeah, I mean I guess one COULD not be sure what happened in Act 1 (though I think you're missing the whole point that him being ornery/unsympathetic hurt his case, but is never presented as evidence of guilt?), but then the show reveals how even the evidence presented against him was nonsense. Thats the arc of the play as written.
So it seems youre saying that you want to meet Leo as a more likable character right from the outset. Which isnt historically accurate, isnt remotely interesting etc. And if that somehow makes it harder for you to appreciate that he was framed, thats sorta on you? No one else is having this problem (and I say this as someone v critical of the book here).

Apologies if it came off that way. Feeling conflicted about Leo Frank's innocence in Act 1 is... a take.
I dont want to spoil anything
but if I remember correctly, the raised platform allows them to put the noose around Leo's neck up on a table of some sort, so his actual hanging consists of Platt silently but dramatically falling through a trap door and out of sight.

She must just be showing up for a pre-show photo with JRB and Uhrie and maybe Micaela. The tip sheet that Betty received is just related to red carpet. If Parade’s curtain is at 6:30 then that’s very doable before she goes across the street for her 8pm Cinderella. And the two shows share a press agent.

I knew the case and think Platt did a great job, but him being 100% innocent throughout Act 1 is not super obvious as portrayed.

The play is written so that theres a mountain of allegations, and then you see them unravel. But regardless the comment here was not about how the book is harsh on Leo; its that Platt needs to make him more likeable (and play him more like Evan Hansen...) so that we can sympathize with him. Nope. That ain't it.

Yes that I agree with.. I thought Platt did a great job with his portrayal. Leo is not the most likeable person in the first half for sure.
Cannot wait to see this on the weekend!! I haven’t looked this forward to a show in a very very long time. Those photos look great! Also, sales really have picked up. Last time I looked, they had about 1-2 weeks of healthy advance (as opposed to just days when performances started). Here’s hoping for some stellar reviews!
Saw today's matinee. It was sold out, & as I went in overheard people at the box office being turned away as Standing Room was also completely sold out.
The show defied my expectations. I still think it tries to tell too many people's stories, but lines that come out very plainly on a cast recording ( been listening to the Donmar recording) land very differently in front of an audience.
I thought the staging was fantastic, and the seat I had at the rear of the orchestra was fantastic. I'll bet actually that Standing Room gives you one of the best possible views for a complete stage picture.
I'm seeing Sweeney Todd tomorrow, so I will reserve judgement... but Ben Platt could have a good chance for the Tony. He was fantastic. His performance was sooo much better than the rehearsal videos they released last fall.
I also think this has a leg up on Into the Woods for best revival.
Unfortunately, I did not care for the accent that Micaela Diamond uses. I thought she sounded a bit like Glynis Johns in Mary Poppins. Lovely singing though.
Even if this doesn't win Best Revival, I think it this production could turn this show into a household name. I could also easily see this adapted as a very fine motion picture. Forget Wicked, I could see someone like Ariana Grande wanting to do this - maybe she wouldn't do it well, but she will still want to do it.
I forgot also it was sooooo cold in that theatre! I did a tour in the morning & had on long underwear, a sweater, & a jacket & I still thought I would get hypothermia!

I saw last Saturday's matinee, and I was absolutely freezing during act 2!! I wanted to put my coat on, but I didn't want to bother the people around me. I actually thought I was getting sick, that's how bad it was.

I saw the matinee today and it was a wonderful afternoon of MT. The score sounds SO good. Im not the biggest Ben fan but he's doing well here. IMO though the clear star of the show is Michaela. She's doing some beautiful work. I have to agree about the dialect, unfortunately. It seemed at times she was going from southern to transatlantic to British? it was very weird to hear. That being said it's a great production and I really enjoyed it a lot.

I didnt notice any accent issues with Diamond when I saw an early preview, so frustrating if shes struggling with this because I thought her performance was close to perfect.

I mean I'm guessing if she's gotten this far before opening without someone addressing it then maybe the team loves it. It was a little jarring for me to hear and get used to. And maybe it doesn't matter to most people! She's still incredible.

Yeah, in real life Leo Frank's interpersonal manner (specifically, he came across as nervous) contributed to the perception of his guilt. I do think Parade really exaggerates his foibles and alienation from the south, but he's not supposed to be a guy who inspires warm and fuzzies.
