Sadly, I know..... lol

Thrilled for Hardbody and Dogfight but not nominating Matilda for Score or
Direction is absurd

Eh, the score for Matilda wasn't anything special. I think Kinky Boots will take it at the Tonys too.
Just read through the list slowly and I think I started drooling over the randomness of the Featured Actor in a Musical nominees.

What. The. Hell...?

I mean, it's a fairly weak category this year.
The horrible Chaplin score is nominated and Matilda is not??? These noms have as much credibility as the Golden Globes.
Not much love for the cast of Drood. Only Will Chase.
Agreed, Kad. Especially if the Tonys deem Carvel leading. But I would have at least expected Gabriel Ebert, or even John Bolton to get nominated over the likes of Dan Lauria, Terrence Mann, and Daniel Stewart Sherman.

ETA: Plus, the musical performances off Broadway were eligible too. This was the list of the five strongest featured male performances on or off Broadway, in their eyes? Yeesh.

For me, the nom for Charlotte d'Amboise, snubbing Rachel Bay Jones, takes away any credibility.
No lighting design nomination for Matilda? I'm surprised.

I'm disappointed about Stephanie J. Block being snubbed. Hopefully, she will get some nominations at the other theatre awards. I'm happy for 'Cinderella' getting eight nominations.

I was also suprised about that.

No love for the Pulitzer winner? Really?
Let's everyone remember that these are in NO way indicative of what the Tony noms will end up being. Happy to see Drood's costumes and directing recognized though, William Ivey Long really outdid himself with some of those gorgeous Victorian dresses and despite the controversy, Scott Ellis made strong, funny choices with his tone for the production.

I was sad to see Jim Norton and Stephanie J. Block missing from the list, but I'm sure we'll see their names mentioned more than enough next week. :)

With each award nominations, the predictable controversies is about to ensue as it always does, but be in no doubt that the Outer Critic Awards go their own way and the Tony Awards goes her own way, as long as it is still open that is.

Wow! MATILDA received nearly unanimous enthusiastic reviews but the Outer Circle had no love for the show (who are the Outer Circle anyway?)

Kelly, I absolutely agree. As for Ellis, I thought it was his best work in years, maybe ever. I think Long's 2 noms were well-deserved and that those might be repeated by the Tonys, but the OCC is not a harbinger.

I saw Chaplin, and really liked it. I also so Matilda and thought it was fine. However, I do think a few of the nominations that Chaplin got deserved to be for Matilda or other shows.

I do like that the OCC mixes Broadway and Off Broadway. And I mean, every time a critic in New York is interviewed about something in the upcoming season they are excited for, its usually things off Broadway, and I think this just goes to show the importance, and quality of Off Broadway.

Although, can we please get over the Stephanie J Block nomination "snub"? She was good, but not award worthy. If there is a snub for Drood, its Jim Norton.

THANK YOU!

I agree that Stephanie wasn't "snubbed", but I'd be pleasantly surprised to see her remembered at the Tonys. She was thoroughly charming and, as always, in stellar voice.
Kelly2, why don't you just gay marry Stephanie already?
The OCC nominee reaction thread always feels like Groundhog Day with different names.

What!? I don't even have a SJB thing...what are you even talking about? I think it's pretty obvious who my favorite is...

Neither of them are snubs. A snub is when someone heavily favored is overlooked. Neither Jim nor Stephanie was favored to get a nomination, let alone win. That being said, I actually do anticipate Stephanie being nominated for a Tony since Lindsay Mendez won't be in the mix (and I highly doubt Valisia is getting nominated).
