Has there ever been a season where so many close at one time? Or is this nothing unusual?"
Based on very little, I'm going to say that recent seasons have had more shows with predetermined closing dates and/or closing announcements were more spread out.
I think the plays (King Lear, Gary, Hillary and Clinton, Ferryman, Ink, probably Frankie and Johnny) are making this seem like more of a pile up too.

I think we could use a nice big slate of new shows.
I kind of wonder if a bunch of Broadway shows closing to this level is an early indicator or the economy in general starting to go south. Broadway attendance has been so high in recent years with that a lot of tickets are going to sell even when the quality isn't there.

I enjoyed this more than most. I found it to be a pleasant and entertaining enough evening. I think the opera scene was the highlight of the show.

" It was a true pleasure seeing Andy Karl once again on Broadway. What a class act. "
It would be nice if he was in a hit show for a change instead of flops. (Rocky, Groundhog Day, Pretty Woman)

If it's losing money, why not just end it with Andy Karl and the other original cast?!"
i wonder if they will end up doing just that. They may have to reach some kind of settlement with the new stars, but in the end they should just close it the end of this month rather than prolong it's death.

WOHA! For some reason I thought that the two new leads had already started July 1st, but I was way off. It definitely seems silly to run a few extra weeks with the two new leads.

Posted: 7/4/19 at 11:07amIts highly unlikely that any "settlement" needs to be had. A contract only is in effect as long as there is a show. I doubt either actor has enough clout to have anything written into their contracts for a minimum.

This is all a bit of a mess caused by a naïve producer who thought her show would magically turn around. It's a crummy situation for the 2 new leads, but not unheard of (Ron Raines in Annie, Judy Kuhn in the Fiddler revival, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels lasted just over a month after Keith Carradine/Brian d'Arcy James/Richard Kind took over).

Or, maybe the producers did the best they could to keep the show running for as long as they could, deserve some credit for actually honoring their commitments to the debut lead actors involved, and for giving them their well earned chance to perform even for just four weeks?

I have a past dated ticket for this show and been trying to sell it, to no avail. Since the show's closing, thought I might as well use it rather than let my money sit.
I'm new to the Broadway community so I thought I'd ask for advice. If I have to see the show again, I'd rather wait until the new principles take over. But I wouldn't be able to redeem that within their first week of shows due to conflicting plans. (Not that I disliked Samantha and Andy at all, I'd just like to see new faces im the roles)
tl;dr: Am I likely to still get a seat two-ish weeks before closing? I know usually shows get really busy then, but with Pretty Woman's track record I thought I could risk it. Or should I just see the show again now while Samantha and Andy are in it?

The show doesn't seem to be selling well, so you would probably be fine.
I don't know anything about the new Edward, but Jillian Mueller is fantastic. (Up until now she's been Samantha's understudy, and I was lucky enough to see her in February)

Andy Karl signed for a year, he fulfilled it and wants to leave. The closing has nothing to do with him or a contract he signed last year. Perhaps he doesn't want to stay an extra three weeks? He stepped in when Steve Kazee quit to move to L.A and date Jenna Dewan. He did everyone a favor, despite saying he wanted to take a long break from Broadway after Groundhog Day.

He got paid to do a job, added a credit to his Broadway resume, will be getting royalties from OBC (probably, I don't know his contract), and got to work opposite his wife. Don't know how this was a favor to anyone except himself and his career?

It was a favor to the company of the show, when their leading man in Chicago realized he didn't want to be on Broadway again. Simple.

The opera scene is not a highlight and is cheaply staged. Like the rest is the show. I really don’t know where the budget for this show went.
And what’s Kazee doing now?

I totally forgot Steve Kazee was initially cast in this. What happened to Adam Pascal since he temporarily replaced Andy Karl during a previous break?
