I was watching the movie and was curious to know..is there or was there ever talk of turning it into a musical? I think in the right setting, it could be pretty fantastic.

I believe there was talk of one at some point.
There's no real plot or story. It's a character study documentary. Other than a series of vignettes and funny segments there's no thrust or stakes. I'd love to see someone smarter than I take a stab at this.
It would seem to me to be like Hands On A Hardbody With the queens who attend the balls-each telling a story. I think its time has passed quite frankly and it would probably work better Off-Broadway.
Marcus Gardley is working on a play with a similar conceit, entitled CHICAGO IS BURNING. The play was set to premiere at Victory Gardens last season, but was scrapped.

Is Paris Burning as a musical? Could work. Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg could write the show and Trevor Nunn or Nicholas Hytner could direct.
Hugh Jackman as Pierrelot
Charles Aznouver as Docteur Monod
Marion Cotillard as Françoise Labé
Olivier Martinez as Lieutenant Henri Karcher
Norbert Leo Butz as Gen. George S. Patton Jr.
Danny Burstein as Lt. Gen. Omar N. Bradley
Christoph Waltz as General Dietrich von Choltitz
GURL...^^ Don't threadjack this legendary thread lol.
There was a similar themed play/musical that played in Newark about the ballroom scene a few years ago.
I came in here about to bash it but now that i think of it it could be a great musical if someone took the time.
The ball scene is very much active around the country just too bangy for me. Always love hearing stories from the older queens about the 70/80's balls.
