The Public Theater lists the running time for this TWELFTH NIGHT as 1:55, no intermission."
They must have made major cuts for it to run in that time. It usually runs at least Two Hours and Fifty minutes with intermission.
I love an intermission!!!!

Romeo the raccoon?? Their mascot? Was this always a thing?
Romeo is new, but the Public Theater first sent out a fundraising email from the Delacorte Raccoons in 2023. I spoke to a woman who worked in marketing for the Public Theater at last year's flea market and told her that I thought that approach was really clever and that I would love to see a poster or merch created from raccoon graphic they used in that email. Lo and behold, I received an email from Creative Goods yesterday announcing new Shakespeare in the Park merch with the raccoons!
I love that they are leaning into this, but I don't love a chopped up Twelfth Night.

Okay, well, the show is absolutely delightful. I thought the length was perfect. I don’t know enough about the script to know what was cut, but it’s a great night.
I really can’t wait to see it. What time did you line up?

Around 5:50-6:00 this morning. I was around 60 or so in line I would guess.

I usually wait in line in the park, but I notice that two of the borough distribution sites are near me up in Washington Heights. Are the lines usually as long there? Do you have to get there as early? Thx.

According to Reddit, the Harlem distribution line this morning was 330 strong by 8:30.

I was there around 7:50 and the line wasn't even at 50 people. It doubled and then tripled very quickly though. After I got my ticket vouchers the line was no less then 4 blocks long. A lot of line jumpers and people trying to be sneaky and join the line while asking questions and trying to "make friends". I'm a little sad that Harlem distribution locations are no longer a best kept secret. Was more or less an easy ticket in the past.
This just seems like the worst possible way to distribute tickets.

Yeah I’m good. I see excellent Shakespeare at the Shakespeare theater of NJ, not trying to stand in line in the blazing sun for hours. The only way I’m seeing this production is if I win the todaytix lottery. Thankfully it’ll be filmed for PBS

What's the worst possible way? Lining up in CP or the boroughs distribution locations? That's the way it has been for decades. Do you have other solutions? I live close to CP, but a much closer Harlem distribution has been a huge time saver. Evidently, not anymore.
As for the play itself, was absolutely worth spending almost 5 hours in line. I saw the last Delacorte production in 2022, that godawful As you like it, and didn't even bother trying for tickets next year before the 2024 renovations closure. The Twelfth Night is fantastic and I highly encourage everyone to see it. It's not just the A list cast, but also your usual Public theater familiar faces and of course, the phenomenal and very competent director Saheem Ali.

I donate money every time they send the raccoon fundraiser email.

I tried the general distribution line at the park on Tuesday. Got there at 6:30am and did not get a ticket (and there were a lot of people in front of me who missed out too). I overheard someone say that the first person in line got there at 4:10.
I tried the in person lotto at the Public today (Friday) and it was packed. Not sure of they give the ticket numbers sequentially (in which case it was 300-400 entries)

‘Twelfth Night’ Review: Lupita Nyong’o in Illyria
The actress is luminous, alongside her look-alike brother Junior Nyong’o, Sandra Oh and Peter Dinklage, in Shakespeare’s comedy at the newly revived Delacorte Theater.

Shakespeare in the Park’s Twelfth Night is Both Pleasant and Facile
A pleasant enough but ultimately shallow engagement with character typifies this production, directed by Saheem Ali.

"This isn’t a report by the fun police: Twelfth Night is bursting with life and humor and should by no means be a moody slog, but Ali’s production is too intent on jollying us along. In doing so, it misses that crucial Shakespearean paradox — that these plays’ extremes offset and enrich one another. You can’t reach this one’s heights of radiance and hilarity without exploring its depths of uncertainty, heartache, and even cruelty. Avoid the latter and you flatten the former. Nothing hurts; nothing transcends."

‘Twelfth Night’ Review: Greatness Thrust Upon Central Park
This summer’s Shakespeare in the Park production is a raucous, unconventional and rewardingly funny outing led by Lupita Nyong’o, Sandra Oh, Peter Dinklage and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.

I wonder (and hope…) if the stars will align for a brief Broadway run. Would add to an already stellar season of revivals.

1 Minute Critic Review — Free Shakespeare in the Park roars back to life with Lupita Nyong’o & Sandra Oh in a dazzling ‘Twelfth Night’
At a recent performance of Twelfth Night at Central Park’s Delacorte Theater, Public Theater executive director Patrick Willingham took to the stage before the play began to rev up the audience and stress the importance of access to theater and cultural institutions. While it wasn’t quite Henry V’s “Once more onto the breach, dear friends, once more” speech, it was pretty damn close.
Director Saheem Ali’s rousing and star-packed production is of one of Shakespeare’s most popular comedies (proven by the fact that the Public has produced the play seven times). Ali’s imaginary Illyria is such stuff as dreams are made on, a magical but intentionally nondescript world in which the tempest of separated twins, a desperation for love, and gluttonous mischief are the follies of the players rather than the place.
A triumphant gender-defying curtain call, costumed in glorious technicolor by Oana Botez, further challenges the recent assault on creative expression and the arts, demonstrating that joy is an act of resistance. And there’s nothing more joyful than the return of Shakespeare in the Park. FULL REVIEW HERE - It only takes a minute ⏰
