More info, the cast was apparently told this afternoon they will be closing in January after the holidays. Hands On A Hardbody will be taking the Brooks in early March.

They might still announce the closing as a way to encourage people to come and get a few months of good sales.

I would be very, very sad to hear this, but the grosses have been pretty poor. And they tried a new marketing campaign recently. (Not very good.) I would certainly have to go one more time.

Honestly, that's a sign to many veterans to start looking for their next job. Almost any time the producer calls the company to reassure them that they are staying open until a certain date without announcing that date to the public (i.e. beginning an ad campaign for the "final 10 weeks/6 months/etc") that usually means the closing notice is being prepped to go up in the next week or two.

This is a great production, you should see it.

This is a play that will have a VERY healthy life in regional and schools. And the talented cast will find work soon.

I hope they get through the Holidays.

Was there tonight. The orchestra is about 95% full, but upon going to the balcony, there was just no one up there.

Is this considered a Disney show? Are they one of the producers? Why wouldn't Disney promote this show like it does all its others? It got great reviews, etc.

On a side note, I didn't love it. I thought the production was great, and interesting, but the play itself was just boring. And I would be curious to see Borle as Black Stache. The Salvidar was pretty good, but he wasn't Tony worthy.

^ disney is a producer but only because they published the book its based on, so they are only involved because they licensed the title, I agree its terribly stupid that Disney didn't just take it on as a full on DTG property.

it would make sense if Disney did advertise it would be very good for children to see it. Disney would fit like a glove for this production. But I did see it on their website for some reason. I do think Disney as un RENT as it is will get children into the theatre. Disney would then sell the rights to schools if they were more hands on it got nominated for best new play not bad for DISNEY if they were more hands on to have two shows at the same time running.

I absolutely loved this show and production. Hopefully I can catch it again before it closes, if not, I am glad I got to see it once.

Disney commissioned the creation of STARCATCHER, for which they also own the rights to the original book. Because this is an unconventional Disney show, and outside producers were brought in, the Disney letterhead and full sponsor-ship was not used. The show also has its fair amount of adult humor, so I'm sure not having the Disney logo on it prevents it from seeming like a "kids" show.

Also, this is just my opinion on the state of a lot of the Broadway community's opinion of Disney, but I don't think the show would have done as well at the Tony's if it had been labeled a "Disney show".

I think that Disney did a respectable and risky thing by putting this out without their label on it, to let it stand on its own as a good new play. If their goal was only to dissuade serious audiences from scoffing at a new Disney show, they have obviously succeeded by now. Maybe they ought to try to market it as a Disney show now that it has its roots, but needs to keep the crowds coming.

I wonder if school troupes will be allowed to deviate from using only one female performer. Otherwise, it won't have any real play in public schools. The outrageous tone would certainly allow for it. (Wouldn't it be fun to see a REALLY good actress do Black Stache?)

Aw this makes me sad. I love this show a lot! I'm not surprised though because their weekly gross have been pretty low for a while now (an I think even around the time they opened, the grosses weren't particularly as high as everyone else's). I live in California, but I think in gonna have to go back to New York for closing night or something.

Me too, me too! I saw it 3 times and wish I could've seen it more! So much creativity... And I loved the set and how they made use of each other as props.. The yellow gloves, the blanket!cat, the ropes, the way they made the sounds to make it seem like they were way below the ship and you can hear dripping water, the mermaids. The mermaids!!! Love, love, love!
