"Any particular reason why you don't like it, or is it just not your thing? I personally think that all of the movies that Disney himself worked on are miles better than anything after he died."
I honestly couldn't give you a solid reason. Just never took a shining to it.
I can't say I agree re: before and after his death. I have a soft spot for a number of the admittedly clunky '70s Disney movies and of course the Renaissance ones are a league in themselves. I think most if not all of the Disney features excel but only to an extent, dropping the ball terribly somewhere else.

True, this is not being developed by Disney Theatrical.
Coming down the pike for them Father of the Bride, Freaky Friday, Princess Bride and, of course, Frozen - with some pretty crazy ideas being batted about for Frozen - but who knows - it seems the earliest that come come in 2017 or 2018.
Muppets musical was put on hold due to the new television series.
Hunchback and Jungle Book have future plans for development/future life.
Hunchback most likely Europe.
Jungle Book on hold until the new movie comes out.
Shakespeare in Love is off to licensing although I think they will be keeping an eye on it at Stratford.
I haven't heard any word on anything Dumbo in a very long time. I believe there was also talk for Enchanted, but haven't heard about that in a long time.
Tangled is going to the stage on the cruise ship.
Far fetched rumors about Toy Story or Finding Nemo making the leap fro the cruise ship or theme park to the legit stage.

Welcome to Times Square which is becoming Disney's East Coast Disneyland including their theme park shows.

Actually, you're thinking of DisneyWORLD--the actual east coast Disneyland...

Went to Disney World/Epcot once & that is enough. To many other places to see & Disney is becoming one giant rip off. If I want Disney & being ripped off, I just hop the train. Hey, I can even see Minnie & Mickey

I worked on MTI's pilot production of MY SON PINNOCHIO. Neither score is really good enough to carry a show. It's certainly cute enough for kids, but not much beyond that.

Let's not assume that it's going to be on Broadway yet. It's very possible, but I think it won't happen in a long time. If anything, it'll clearly be at the West End before Broadway

I imagine the stage version of Dumbo is on hold or dead, as Disney is doing the live action film version with Tim Burton.

Yes it seems DISNEY (the big corporation) puts the theatrical versions on hold to put efforts into the movies . . .

I wish Disney Theatrical would seriously consider Pocahontas as a stage vehicle. It's not a perfect movie, but the score is wonderful and I think what's there could translate super well to the stage. Great starring opportunity for an unknown young Native American actress too.

The Daily Mail reports that, while the role of Pinocchio will be portayed by a human actor, other parts in the stage adaptation will be performed by puppets.

John Tiffany's concept is so out there it could be brilliant. It will be the most adventurous take on a Disney film to stage since The Lion King no doubt.
ive heard from the horses mouth that Disney won't be developing Pocahontas for the stage any time soon. They received a lot of flack from the Native American community when the film came out and fully casting the show with accomplished musical theatre talent who are also Native American is likely next to impossible.

I wonder if they could what Terrence Mann did for Anastasia, by removing most of the (overly idiotic) fantasy elements and incorporating more of the 'real history' into the book . then again, like you mentioned, the Russians never had a problem that Native Americans had with the depiction of the titular character.
edit: on 2nd thoughts, maybe it's for the best since IRL, Pocohontas was actually a little girl / pre teen when she met John Smith and she was technically a teenager when she got child-brided to that other dude. talk about ick.

Hmmmm. I know Chris Colfer has been very vocal about wanting to come to Broadway specifically with pinnochio.

I love and adore Pinocchio with all my heart. I even own it, but don't watch it all that often for whatever reason, but every time I do, I'm always reminded of how truly great it is/what a true classic it is. But I don't know how it would translate :/ The Golden Age films weren't created with "stage" in mind. Pretty much all the musical films Disney has ever made have at the very least, a SLIGHT stage essence about it just by being a 'musical' or 'movie with music' as I think the Golden Age ones are, but not every Disney movie musical would translate/read on stage well. Tarzan and Little Mermaid being the two Renaissance ones that def didn't need to be on stage.
Pocahontas is the same way but for different reason. Even Menken has said, he doesn't know how Pocahontas would translate. Pocahontas, I believe, was meant to stand on it's own as a piece of race relations commentary as a film. It's theme, I think, keep sit from being a good stage property. It was created to tell that always relevant theme, and that's it. At least, that's my bets explanation. Sometimes you don't why something won't translate, but you just know it won't. Allegiance I daresay flopped for the same reason. These themes are better told in other mediums rather than a stage musical. Musicals just by being musical live in their own world and still need to entertain as well as educate as make us "feel".
Now why Hunchback works in most mediums, I think it's because the story has that sweeping epic feel to it already. It lends itself to being a musical tale well. And of course, Menken just made it even more epic and sweeping with that God sent music of his..."Bells...Dame" is still my musical crack yo.
And speaking of, He HAS said more than once when asked about which is his Disney works he's like to see on stage, he's answered with Hercules. I'M STILL WAITING ON THIS!!

The layers of that concept make my brain hurt. So Pinocchio makes his epic journey to become...a puppet? *explosion*
Also, Disney is not producing this show, I read. They're just licensing the plot/music.

Correct. It's being produced by the National Theatre. Disney is not involved except giving them the material.
