Re: P!nk and her daughter are doing Next to Normal

The whole nepo thing is just weird. If this production ever happens, it is happening for one and only one reason which is that Pink is in it so I think she can dictate who she wants in the cast. It’s her show. But most importantly her real life daughter would be playing her show daughter. That is priceless and not something that happens often, as far as I’m aware.

Marin and Jason being together in real life absolutely added something.

Knowing Imelda Staunton was the real life mother to her daughter in a recent west end play also made it more tolerable.

The ‘nepo’ framing assumes that other people would be more suitable to the role but missed out because of nepotism. In this specific case that is not true. If you’re not the real life daughter of Pink, you’re not as suitable.

Obviously she needs to be good enough and still have adequate singing and acting abilities but she doesn’t need to be the best because the value she is providing is that she is the real life daughter playing her show daughter.

Give me claws and a hunch, just away from this bunch.

And I think this is utter nonsense.

No single performer should get to dictate who is in the rest of the cast.

You can when you’re the damn producer. Countless performers produce their projects just for this reason AND for creative control. When no one is offering you the roles you want to play, you take matters into your own hands and make things happen.

If this were to happen, I think there would be an unwritten, unspoken backlash in the Broadway community. I don’t think the theater voting community would like this and not want to set a precedent. Namely, a big star ingratiating themselves to the Broadway community with cloying bravado only to slip in a major revival with their kid. The show will not win anything.

Also, everyone will kiss Pinks a#* to her face while secretly resenting her.

"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal "I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello

Check binau's posted comment which I quoted and replied to. Nothing in it references Pink as a producer, simply a performer, but I appreciate your informative non sequitir nonetheless.
