Poll: Worst Broadway Show of 2016

Disaster, Hughie, and Our Mother's Brief Affair- strictly based on reviews I read for them- should run away with this poll. I'm not voting as I didn't see them...thankfully.

I'm surprised that Heisenberg and Holiday Inn are on here, and it's subjective of course...but I don't think they come anywhere near the blunders of the above three. Lol

The poll is not showing up on my browser but Hughie was excruciating. Worse than even In Transit, which somehow isn't even on your list.

Blackbird & American Psycho were two of my highlights of the year, FWIW.

Oh Hello is in your bottom ten? Are you freakin' kidding?

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I also loved American Psycho, and I've heard good things about Oh, Hello. But I know it's your list, not mine. :)

I wrote in Waitress. I just found about 80% of the characters unbearable, with one of them actually being offensive. I'm not sure what so many others see in the show, but that's entertainment!

A white man who didn't like Waitress. Shocked, I say. Shocked!

Holiday Inn and Our Mother's Brief Affair. I found both to be excruciating to sit through.

The fact that you included OH, HELLO and HEISENBERG is laughable. Also for what it's worth AMERICA PSYCHO was one of my favorites last season.

OH, HELLO is actually towards the bottom for me too.

Hughie is the easy worst though. So painful to sit through. You don't want to feel embarrassed for the person onstage who can't remember his lines, even for just an hour.

TUCK EVERLASTING by far. I couldn't even sit through it. I really enjoyed AMERICAN PSYCHO though -- one of the most exciting musicals of the season.

I feel like for this to be an accurate poll, you need to include ALL of the shows from this year on there. By only including a select few, you are asking people to vote for the worst based on your parameter of "the worst".

I know just as many people who hated "Bright Star" and "Shuffle Along" as I know people who hated "Disaster" and "Hughie".

Also, for what it's worth, I STRONGLY disagree on your assessment of "Blackbird" as one of the worst of the year. It left me, and the audience who was there the night I saw it, spellbound.

I agree with quizking101. A truly fair and accurate poll would include every show that opened in 2016.

I saw plenty of bad stuff off Broadway, but this thread says Broadway. Daphne's Dive doesn't qualify.

Yes, why didn't you include every show?

The fact that Heisenberg and Oh, Hello were *selected* to be on this list seriously makes me question your credibility, NewYorkTheater...

I disagree with American Psycho on this list! I thought it was a very entertaining show!!! I saw it 2x in one weekend in May

Um ... what? Would he be more likely to like it if he weren't white? I don't understand.

not sure who made this list but most of these were far superior to "The Encounter" and "The Cherry Orchard" which were two of the worst things I have ever seen.

It would be Hughie, but that was mercifully short.

"

I might be wrong on this, but I think the OP was talking shows that opened in 2016. Though I do agree with you, China Doll was a complete train wreck.

I was hoping to send you a private message to avoid threadjacking, but I was unable to do so. Poll: Worst Broadway Show of 2016

Do you care to elaborate? You seem to be rather dismissive of my opinion here, and I'm not sure where that's coming from.

My main problem with the show is the character of Ogie. He came across as an intensely creepy stalker in the first act, and I was hoping he'd be treated as such in the second act, but he actually gets to marry the object of his stalking. I found that pretty repulsive. (I know I'm not the only one to have that reaction, since it's been discussed elsewhere on the board.)

Less offensively, many of the characters seemed like clichés and a lot of the humor reminded me of a very stale old sit-com. I did like the music a lot, though.

I think you must be implying, by your comment, that I didn't like it because it wasn't written and directed by white males. You don't know me, of course, but that claim wouldn't hold up to scrutiny.

I personally love Waitress, but I completely agree with what you said about Ogie. I can't help but think of how much different "Never Ever Getting Rid of Me" would have come across if it had been sung by Earl.

I am surprised at how many votes American Psycho has received.

I only saw it once on closing night, but the show was electric and fun. The lighting reminded me of Curious Incident, but was still wonderful nonetheless.

What I'd give to see that show staged again!
