"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

Re. Musicals: The producers of "Matilda" and "Pippin" should be very happy come Monday morning. I agree with tazber (see below). (Exception: Orchestrations to "Motown".)
Is it really possible that "Kinky Boots" could get *zero* Tonys? That would be a devistating blow to what is, essentially, a niche production.

I hope the gestapo who started this thread won't mind me explaining two things--
Tom Hanks has yet to win a single award other than the Theater World Award. He's great, love his enthusiasm, but I'm still doubtful he'll win. I think IF the Tony voters want to honor Ephron and LUCKY GUY, they'll honor George Wolfe.
And I think Danny Burtstein will get the Tony for similar reasons why Stokes won for KISS ME, KATE. Stokes gave a brilliant performance in RAGTIME, yet Alan Cumming was fierce competition. So he won the next time at bat. Burstein was brilliant in FOLLIES, but that category last year was quite tough. And he's been around forever and deserves a little recognition.
Not saying who SHOULD win, mind you. Saying who I think WILL. Happy?
I can't link to it from my phone, but Riedel just posted his predictions for select categories:
Laura Osnes Andrea Martin Tom Hanks Richard Kind
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
--Aristotle
Riedel's predictions... (not mine!): Best Musical: MATILDA Best Book: MATILDA Best Score: KINKY BOOTS Best Actor (Musical): Carvel, MATILDA Best Actress (Musical): Osnes, CINDERELLA Best Play: VANYA & SONIA & MASHA & SPIKE Best Actor (Play): Hanks, LUCKY GUY Best Actress (Play): Tyson, THE TRIP TO BOUNTIFUL Best Featured Actor (Play): Kind, THE BIG KNIFE Best Featured Actress (Musical): Martin, PIPPIN
...And he gives away Martin's coupe de théâtre.

I think it depends what you think of each performance and what you saw? I can say I know for a fact that the producers of "Cinderella" invested some SERIOUS money in a campaign crafted around Osnes while mentioning their other nomination but mainly it was her.
As ucjrdude902 said Cinderella's producers knew what they could compete for and spent money in those categories. Cinderella's only nominated categories where they they could be seen as competitive were Costumes, Orchestrations and Laura Osnes. Of those nominations they will likely go 2/3 and possibly 3/3. In knowing that their was no real chance at best revival, they dropped out of the TV appearance game and instead just headed up Osnes for appearances with voters.
If Miller loses she can blame the fact that she is overshadowed by the rest of the praise her production will receive. The Weissler's probably want Patina to win, but they probably, like most, thought she was a lock once the Matilda's were ruled ineligible. While the Weisslers were spending tons of money on campaigning for Diane Paulus and Chet Walker, along with all of the design awards, Osnes' "Kindness" slowly started to outshine Miller's "Seductive Magic". When Pippin is truly competing for all of the awards it is nominated 10! some are bound to fall by the wayside, which unfortunately for Patina is her Best Actress.
Osnes and Patina both give amazing performances, and it is hard to pick one that is better. The more I think about a Tony Award being an award given after a campaign, I think if most are torn between the two, Osnes' incredibly nice and cordial personality may just be the feather that tips scales for just enough voters.
