I don’t usually trust everything sweaty oracle says but I just need to ask is this real? If so this is absolutely terrifying and I think why we need to step away from broadway altogether and start turning our attention and point of focus to off broadway and regional theatre https://www.tiktok.com/@sweatyoracle/video/7640582070233877774

he isn’t wrong but also it is documented that the Nederlanders AND Shuberts have been donating to Trump repeatedly as did Jordan Roths dad and other major producers

The reality of almost any business is that they're going to donate to whoever is in charge (or who they think will be) in an attempt to curry favor. Business has no morals.

I think we'll be OK. Aside from the disgusting coziness of some of the relationships, I just don't think they'd try to MAGA-ify one of the most liberal industries, in one of the most liberal cities in the world. (From directors, to designers, to cast members, who would work for them?)
Even if they did make it the Branson of the North, how would they convince their brethren that NYC is no longer the supposedly "most dangerous city in America" to come and see a show?

how about that Trump bootlicker SHARI REDSTONE (you know who cozied up to Trump so the Ellisons could buy CBS + Paramount)
That horrible human should not be receiving any votes and not to be welcomed into this community. She I believe produced CATS (one of my faves of the season) and Giant. it is because of HER that CBS/PARAMOUNT are MAGA
Why is this old crypt keeper being given a pass - and what is her co-producer thinking
Broadway has become a disgusting industry with the likes of Roths, Nederlander etc - These vile people should be cancelled.
I do love CATS and won't take it out my votes for that show But GIANT forget it. Eff you Shari Redstone and your associates.

I wouldn't put anything past this administration.
The FCC just gave Nextar, their CEO is a Trump ally, a waiver to own more than double the amount of TV stations allowed by law, which is 39%. They will own approximately 80% with this new merger with Tegna. There is one Democratic member on the FCC.
At this point, I don't think anyone is "safe". Not even Broadway. Just my opinion.

I really cannot get through this video because of how off-putting and meandering he is (a 12 minute video is an eternity when a black hole of charisma is staring, unblinking, directly into the camera) aside from the links between Blackstone and Trump, is there anything here that isn't just SO doing conspiratorial spitballing?

This.
Painful. Even at 2x speed.

It was actually the first video of him I watched all the way through. I watched a short clip of him years ago and couldn't handle that!) I was about to turn it off until I figured out that he was using "Lar" to block profanity. It's what got me through it. When the "Wicked" Cast Recording came out, my then best friend and I were obsessed with it and for the longest would just randomly say "Lar". Unfortunately, I am now fighting off the urge to do it again.

And it gets even worse just recently he posted on his Instagram story that there are several musicals from the season we are about to enter that have theaters already booked that might not even begin performances at all, and there will be at least four (closer to 10) more musical closing announcements within the coming weeks. To paraphrase him “this is about to be the worst time for the Broadway musical since January 2009.” I don’t know if it’s just his classic fear-mongering, but what does everyone think?

Musicals have had boom and bust periods for decades, they’re going bust right now.
16 Broadway shows closed in January 2009 alone, some of which were planned limited engagements and seasonal runs. Lest we forget, the theatre industry was also surprisingly resilient during the Great Recession. There were hits and other solid WOM shows to be found which opened in that time.
We’ll see what happens now as the months + next few years go by. If the Oracle doesn’t fear monger, he doesn’t have any views. And I’ll leave it at that.

Whatever happened to that girl who got on camera and cried about that? How is she doing?

Investors are running scared. That's not new news. I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of the new musicals don't make it in. It would be devastating for everyone involved, but running costs are out of control and capitalizations are regularly 20+ million dollars. It's just not sustainable and there's no solution.

I believe his sole platform is to cause division in the theatre community (not just those who work in the industry but the fans) just for attention and clicks. Somebody once called him a threat to Broadway and you know what I gotta hand it to the people in the industry who are calling him out. I mean what he said about The Lost Boys recently in particular was a line crossed

He is literally Ryan Reynolds’s “Spirited” character.
