Ragtime is one of my all time favorites and I think that in the right hands it could make an incredible movie, it is such an important piece, and especially relevant today considering current events.
The OBC was perfection- don't get me wrong, but nearly 20 years later... the ages are an issue. Who would you cast today, either from Broadway or Hollywood? -- all hypothetically because as far as I know there are no plans (but we can dream)
Personally I really don't know- especially about Hollywood actors, but I think that Kelli O'hara would make a great Mother, and Aaron Tviet as Mother's Younger Brother. And I'd make Audra Sarah's friend (the featured singer) in "Till we reach that day" because she has to be in it!
I think that Aaron Tveit is too old for Younger Brother - he doesn't have that youthfulness about him anymore.
I would cast Marin Mazie in a reprisal of her role as Mother - she's recently proved that she can still command a show with her performance in The King and I, and I don't think that she's too old.
Brandon Victor Dixon would make an incredible Coalhouse.
Annaleigh Ashford as Evelyn Nesbit?
Other than that, I'm not really sure.
Mother: Michelle Williams
Coalhouse Walker, Jr.: Joshua Henry
Tateh: Jake Gyllenhaal
Father: Patrick Wilson
Mother's Younger Brother: Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Sarah: Cynthia Erivo
I would have never thought of Jake Gyllenhaal as Tateh. He would be excellent.
Annaleigh Ashford as Evelyn Nesbit is a stroke of GENUIS. I also agree 100% with Jeffrey's list. Great casting choices.

oohh, Jake Gyllenhaal would be good as Tateh

We're being incredibly generous with our selections of theater vets, for a movie dreamcast.
If you want to dream cast Ragtime with theatre veterans, start a thread dream casting a Broadway revival.
^ That's what I meant, Jeffrey. I don't think Joshua Henry, BVD, Cynthia Erivo, Marin, Kelli, or Kyle Scatliffe are anywhere near the star power which would make a movie with them happen. Not yet anyway.
Jake Gyllenhal is indeed a great choice on your list, but I'm not convinced about Michelle Williams.

By definition a "dream" can be anything- realistic or non realistic. I do get what you mean, but on this thread dreams have no limitations.

What you lack in reading comprehension, you make up for in shameless self-promotion and hubris. I again ask Rob to reconsider giving any future exposure to Mr. Karasarides, who shows he is far too immature and under-qualified to work for BWW.
Oh, am I?
Well, here are some ideas of mine for a Ragtime revival...

I don't think this is going to be very commercial with Matthew Broderick as Younger Brother. How about Nathan Lane for that part? He has a very youthful energy about him.
Since I dream cast in an alternative universe:
Mother - Bellamy Young
Father - Jeremy Northam
Younger Brother - Bobby Steggert
Tateh - Oscar Isaac
Sarah - Renee Elise Goldsberry
Coalhouse - Leslie Odom, Jr.
Emma - Minnie Driver
Evelyn - Emma Stone
