Sad news of his passing. Loved his performance in Hairspary on tour (also on Bway), and he was a truly gifted comedian. He will be sorely missed.
WHAT? OMG. He was so wonderful and nice. Please say this isn't true. ;-(
Sadly, yes, it is true. Such a loss!
John Pinette Dies, Age 50
Very sad to hear this. I loved him in Hairspray. He was also a very funny comedian. He will be dearly missed.
This is SOOO sad. He was hysterical in Hairspray and in all he did! He was one of the best Edna’s I have ever seen. He was pretty perfect. I will miss him!

Here's his "Timeless To Me". One of the funniest I have ever seen. He's a master of improv.

I went backstage the second time I saw Hairspray when he was performing. He could not have been nicer - and funnier - to my brother and I! Terrible news. He turned in a wonderful performance as Edna.
I was his dresser on the tour, and he made me laugh every day. He was one of the sweetest, most humble people I've ever worked with.

One of my favorite comedians. I've always loved his stand-up and really wish I could have seen him live as Edna. There are some clips of his "Timeless to Me" on youtube that are just hilarious.

He really and truly redefine who Edna was... and the line between John and Edna was almost nonexistent. The sincerity he had was remarkable... and on stage, he would have you rolling in the aisle laughing and turn a dime and have you choking back tears whenever Edna felt hurt or pain. Off stage, he was a wonderfully friendly man who was all too eager to make a new friend, bring you into his fold, and would light up a room with his smile. You honestly not resist smiling when he did...
Such a sad loss for so many people.

For anyone that would like to leave a message with his family, or make a contribution in his honor, the link below should be helpful. There will be a memorial at Caroline's Comedy Club at some point, although I don't have any further information at this time.
For those that either saw his work, or were fortunate to work with the man, it is a huge loss. Heaven, however, just got funnier.
Memorial Information
I had the pleasure of working with him on Hairspray on Broadway. I am shocked by this news. He was definitely my favorite Edna ever.
