Someone in a Tree2 said: "Our favorite compromise spot is in the front row of a section, usually P, even if it's way over to the side, just so that we can spread out our picnic plates and wine glasses along the cinderblock wall in front of our bench. For JCS, we're sadly in P3 but still front row along that blessed wall."

Similar to what we do.  We have a group going and what we do is get P and get the first two rows in P so that we can deal more with each other. But we did it a while back.

I’m so happy for Milo! He seems like such a nice guy and is very talented - glad he’s getting more stage credit and this attention! 
 

Raul has been sorely missed for some time and I’m incredibly excited to see his talent in person for the first time.

She was rumored, but my current understanding from people on the ground is that they just lost yet another Mary and are having trouble keeping one. They're looking to surprise people with the casting of Herod too, either as a special surprise on the night or because they hope to avoid another incident like those erupting at cinemas from his recent video game-related flick. (Suffice it to say he's a logical choice and has done the role in a similarly special concert before.)

Oh that would be interesting,  a bunch of 13 year olds throwing popcorn for Jack Black when he sings "Chicken jockey" as Herod.

I know LA is its own vibe, but are there always crowds of 13 year olds at the Hollywood Bowl?

The LAPhil summer events (which this is) at the Bowl are for the most part a family affair.   Yes.. there will be kids.  I don't think they nececcarily mix well with the drinking adults (people bring their own libations in the summer) .

Yes, Josh Gad as Herod is definitely surprising. Phillipa Soo is beautiful and technically perfect, but there's nothing exciting about her acting. Great cast all around tho.

Everyone who had their popcorn ready for Jack Black to yell "chicken jockey" is sorely disappointed.  According to Fox News a riot broke out at the box office of 13 year olds demanding their money back.

Here's a serious question:

Has anyone here attended shows at both the Hollywood Bowl (seating capacity according to Google of 17.5K - so comparable to a sports arena but outside) and at St Louis's Muny (seating capacity according to Google of 11K).  

How did the experiences compare?  I would imagine it is much more humid in St Louis.

Ms Erivo has a concert at Chicago's Ravinia Festival later in August, and out of curiosity I googled capacity there as well.  The main Pavillion only has seating for 3500.  But for some shows they also sell General Admission lawn seating that can boost capacity to 18K. But the website mentions that you can only hear the concerts from most GA lawn seats, and not see the performance stage.   The only time I was in Chicago Steely Dan was playing Ravinia, and I passed on it as I'm not a big fan of 70's rock.  I did attend a free concert at Millennium Park where everyone was picnicking,  and you could hear the show but barely see the stage from where I was about halfway back - Google says seating capacity there is 11K.
