It is definitely happening with Annaleigh and I think an announcement may be coming this week. My source only confirmed Annaleigh since that's all he knew, but I would assume this will also be Groban. My guess is that they are waiting for Tina to close today since they are likely taking the Lunt Fontanne and it's common courtesy to wait until the current tenant closes before announcing the next tenant. Keep an eye out for news in the next few days.
BUT having trouble wrapping my head around Groban as a brooding, depressed, cynical, homicidal maniac. And i adore Ashford but she reads to cute and young. VERY curious to see what they do with this-- who is directing?
If not Ashford, am I the only one who thinks older actresses should enjoy their shot with this? Faith Prince. Donna Murphy. Christine Ebersole. Julia Murney would be brilliant. Mary Testa. Carmen Cusack! Jane Krakowski!
Or, would love to see something totally out there- Daphne Rubin Vega. Allison Janney would be very interesting. Katrina Lenk would be fascinating.

Carmen Cusack did recently play Mrs. Lovett at the St. Louis Muny.
See I think Bernadette could still play Lovett with Groban it could definitely add to the creepiness of the piece. This older woman attracted to this younger man who’s crazed.
Is it really customary for a show to wait until another show is closed? Usually they wait for the closing announcement, but not for the show to actually be closed.

Exactly - the actual show closing doesn't matter. Once a show posts their notice, it's fair game for the next show to announce that they are coming in whenever they want (even if the other show is still running).

Not a fan of Ashford - don't get her casting. Now, I can't stop thinking of Jennifer Simard as Mrs. Lovett and what she would bring to the role...Imagine?
