Please don't let this be true. He wouldn't be able to handle it. He couldn't even handle Eat, Pray, Love.

Please let him be a producer and not director. He isn't good enough. They need someone awesome to do this.

Not sure if it's official, but his name has been associated with the project for some time. I'm pretty sure Kramer himself actually confirmed it at one point.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe."

Yeah, Kramer confirmed it a while ago. I hate, hate, hate this idea. Mostly because Murphy has really gone down the tubes fast in terms of quality productions. This material seems COMPLETELY out of his league.

Eek, no. This doesn't seem like something he would be able to handle at all

I HATE the way gay characters are portrayed on GLEE, so please please please keep him
far far away from this. I'd love to see George C. Wolfe direct the film version.

Ripped, I would love to see Wolfe direct it also.

I completely agree, Wolfe would be fantastic! I would hate to see Murphy direct this.

Has Wolfe done film before? He seems like a visionary type director, so I know it would beautiful, and we know he understands the material.

Please keep Ryan Murphy far away from this play. No, no, no, no.
This has disaster written all over it.

RippedMan, Wolfe did a stunning job directing LACKAWANNA BLUES for HBO a few years ago to tremendous acclaim. He also directed NIGHTS IN RODANTHE with Richard Gere and Diane Keaton.
The bottom line is that the subject matter of the piece is going to make it an incredibly hard film to get made, which is evidenced by the problems its had throughout its development phase for the screen over the last two decades already.
Ryan Murphy is a hot property because of GLEE, and his name will be something studios will get behind. Larry Kramer knows that, and that's exactly why he personally went after Murphy.

I like to imagine what John Cameron Mitchell would do with this.

I loved John Cameron Mitchell's take on "Rabbit Hole." Just felt Nicole Kidman was a bad casting choice.
But, anyway, I don't get why a studio wouldn't get behind this. This has OSCARS all over it. Or this could end up like For Colored Girls. Put a "name" director attached to a great, critically acclaimed play, and see what you get.

Kidman produced RABBIT HOLE, so there was little choice there. And she did a fine job anyway.
Mitchell is an inspired choice, Curtain.

Let Wolfe handle this, and FOR GODS' SAKE, keep the cast from Broadway! I couldn't stand Mark Ruffalo in it much less than I could stand Patrick Wilson in ANGELS IN AMERICA.

Joe Mantello is not a film actor, and I don't know if his intensity and immediacy would translate well into the medium. I actually think Ruffalo is a fine choice; he's a much better actor than most people seem to give him credit.

RippedMan what was your problem with Kidman in Rabbit Hole? She gave her best performance in years.

Murphy, sucks. Everyone remember how awful, despite an amazing cast, his adaptation of Running with Scissors was? He'd be a decent producer--he has good initial ideas and helped turn around Glee ( a show he didn't create) from its original premise but he has no sense of control, and that's what this play needs. He really is a hack--all three of his TV shows have gone from strong initial early seasons, to utter disasters.
