I would love to see Imelda Staunton do this
Well, it's probably not happening while I'm there this summer! Also, I thought Imelda was going to do Hello Dolly in London next year.

Lots of interesting rumors, conjectures, and wishes in this short thread over at London TheatreBoard

Feel like the only way to revive this would go the opposite way and have it be a tiny production.

Hannah Waddingham? She's 48 and Norma should be ~50. She's a name, especially in the West End and now elsewhere thanks to Ted Lasso.
I wonder if maybe Stephanie J Block will do it. London audiences would ABSOLUTELY love her!

The '08 London revival sort of did that as the actors played instruments ala Doyle.

I thought it was OK.
The circulating rumor is Scherzinger.

Yes please.
It would never happen because she's not a huge "name" (yet) but I'd love to see Mazz Murray as Norma.
Mazz Murray - Sunset Boulevard

lol, how many roles will she circle before she actually commits to something? although I do suspect with the PCD reunion completely off the table, and no real possibility of a solo career after over a decade, we might see Miss Scherzinger go full force into theatre after teasing it so many times.
I'm here for Hannah Waddingham doing literally anything - I bet she would be fabulous.
Imelda is probably better suited to play Dolly if that rumor is true, but I was thinking she would pull off Norma's mania pretty well.

Mazz Murray would be great, but if they want a star, they’d be smart to go with Hannah Waddingham and let Mazz Murray be the replacement. Imelda Staunton isn’t right for this.

Imelda as Dolly isn’t a rumor - it’s happening next summer at the Palladium.
Can Olivia Colman sing? She’s be a marvel.

Mazz absolutely has the pipes and I'd like to see her in this.
The trouble is they keep casting names....Imelda is 400% wrong for this. Whoever does it needs A) the voice B) the acting chops and C) the face. Imelda maybe has B, if that.
Norma's a tough nut to crack.
I hope it's well designed and directed. We need a grand staircase!
Hannah would be fantastic and worked with ALW on the Wizard of Oz.
I guess my only reasoning would be why? Like what’s the reason to revive it now? What’s the new concept? It’s my favorite ALW score and I love the original movie, so i am here for it.

I'm not trying to be flippant, but why does anything get revived or for that matter, originally created? Someone wants to do it (performer, producer, director) and if they can get enough people to back it, they put it on stage.

My bad! I didn't realize it was really happening. Thank you!
I redact my statement that she would be a good Norma, but I am excited to see her as Dolly.

Imelda Staunton has already played Norma Desmond twice in London and doesn’t need to do it a third time. Because the two revivals she did were so close together and ill-timed with the Lonny Price Glenn Close concert for marketing purposes the first revival was called Gypsy and the second Follies.
