So then I ask you: when do we draw the line? If we accept that someone like Metcalf is doing his productions for the reasons you mention, do we systematically review his work of the past 20 years and decide not to purchase tickets for these individuals (…except for maybe Donna, for obvious reasons)?

I’m trying carefully not to divulge into syllogisms, but that seems to be the next direction for this particular topic. It’s almost impossible not to.

Funny yousay that, because I'd actually argue the reason we are where we are in "this cursed year of 2025" is because people are giving P.O.S human beings like Rudin, Trump, and Andrew Cuomoa second chance even though they've literally done nothing to earn it. A lot of "Yeah, he sucks and is a terrible person, but things were better when he was in charge" for all three of them.

I really did not mean to upset you. I said you are a drama queen. Is that what you mean by calling you a name? You don't think you are a drama queen? Interesting. I thought from your last 3 posts on this thread that it is something you proudly own. ( Not diminishing anything your trying to say.. just that your kind of going off at strangers). And as far as asking for a Gypsy discount code in the Gypsy thread... I did scroll and google and all that. I guess I am just not very good at it. Which is why I asked for help. This board is always very supportive with things like that. A great resource. Poison Ivy helped me out and I was able to get very good seats. And I do see by scrolling back that I did say thank you. You are speaking as if Rudin were merely just a jerk to his employees. He would indeed be within his rights to be a total asshole in his business- it's not commendable or desirable behavior but it's also not abusive. But, no, he actually was actively abusive, emotionally and physically, and it has been exceptionally well-documented over many years.

I do think that in the move to prevent abusers from being in positions of power, the question of rehabilitation has fallen to the wayside or been dismissed. I'm not exactly sure what I would want in the form of rehabilitation in this case, or what guardrails I would want to see put in place to ensure Rudin doesn't just continue on hurting people with considerably less power than he does. But I do know that a friendly NYTimes profile with vague talk of therapy, deflections of accountability, playing down of the allegations, and the subtext of "Broadway needs me" doesn't really fill me with confidence.

Unless I missed it, I’m surprised that no one has mentioned the Rudin-esque style of the Good Night and Good Luck Playbill. When I saw the cover today, I immediately thought of him.

You didn'tsay thank you to them actually, but okay. Suggesting I'm a drama queen because I'm talking about my friend's experience with a violent abuser isn't accurate. And plenty of people have "gone off" on strangers in this thread on both sides, so it's interesting you would put that label on me. When the violent predator announced days ago that he was coming back to Broadway after doing no work on himself and saying Broadway needs him so badly, it brought my friend back to him being violently assaulted and told he was "worthless" "useless" and he should be "treated like a f*cking dog". He has been upset all week about it and it deeply angersme that people simply don't care, they just want to be entertained. I think if anyone has ever cared about a survivor of violence and abuse, they understand my frustration.

The coldness in this thread, the lieof "no one knows who he is so it won't matter to anyone", and gleefully talking about his next project just simply makes me sad. As a DV survivor myself, it's very hard for me to understand. But, I guess if youdon't know anyone or have never personally experienced abuse, or truly don't care about others, it's very easy to just ignore it. I value your contributions here and respect you, which is why I checked on you after those horrible fires in California. Anyway, I hope this sheds some light on my responses in this thread. It does. And again; I am so sorry. I meant no harm. In refering to my original comment.. Bette Midler is semi retired and Glenda Jackson is dead. It would take alot for me to go see something he is behind. Mycomment was kind of.. me being a gay man of a certain age... thats what it might take. Lately; I come to this board in lightness and for show and seating advice. Anything deeper and it is not good for me in the state of mind I am these days. I will be more careful.

Scott Rudin's return to Broadway will be Samuel D. Hunter’s Little Bear Ridge Road this October, with Laurie Metcalf and Joe Mantello directing.

It's a Steppenwolf transfer, but Steppenwolf has opted not to participate in the Broadway version. No clue if that's related to Rudin or another reason.

Because he’s never had a transgression egregious enough happen to one of the unions’ members. And he doesn’t not pay which is typically what puts producers and others on those lists.

Pretty sure he has a solid reputation that he treats stars very well (well Audra may have something else to say about that, but we’ll never know) , so they wouldn’t have reason to complain. Likely why Laurie is willing to do this is she’s been treated well behind the scenes and it’s been pleasant experiences on her past shows with him.
