Since shows like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Little Women were not nominated for the Best Musical Tony Award, they are unable to perform at the Tonys. However, should they be allowed to do a number from their respective shows? After all they did recieve some nominations just not in the top category.
No.
No, they shouldn't. The awards show is long enough as it is, and adding more performances would only cut down the time that each show has to perform. It would be too hard to decide which shows should perform, anyway. I think it's fine the way it is.

No.
The show already runs three hours with just the nominated shows performing. Opening it up to another half dozen shows would just add to the overlong running time, which CBS would NEVER allow anyway.
Let shows EARN their slot. Just because you opened this season, doesn't mean you deserve to be on the telecast. And if the Tonys are to have any semblance of worth or merit or be true to their word about awarding "excellence" then only the best shows should be represented.
nope. waste of time. the reason the nominated shows perform is the give the audience that hasn't seen the shows a taste of them. it's not like the Oscars where everyone has the opportunity to go to their local movie theatre and see the nominated films. there's no reason for shows that are not nominated to be performing other than extending Broadway's longest television commercial that only about 3 million people are watching anyway...
nooooo
cuz then there is the risk of Brooklyn performing
I agree with everyone else - No.
More attention should be given to plays nominated.

LITTLE WOMEN got one nomination and it has already closed. Why on earth should it perform?

I guess a scene from nominated plays would be out of the question....?
I thought you meant Best Plays.
I like that they show clips for Plays.
I'd like the ACTORS from non-nominated shows to participate by maybe singing in the opening number. But that's all.
Full performances should be from nominated-shows only.
Definetely not...what I WOULD like to see though, is allowing the shows that are nominated to perform more. I was watching some older broadcasts (a friend of mine has every single Tony broadcast on tape) and they used to allow much more time to the nominated shows...instead of the meager couple minutes they have now.
But really, do we all want to sit there watching Brooklyn perform? There's a reason these darn shows weren't nominated.
There have been several attempts at excerpting nominated plays during the awards, but without the correct context they all-too-often fall flat.
NO. I agree with everyone as well.
oh p.s. to pinguin..
I have the 'HONK' bumper sticker too! On my door...i have NO idea how it got there either...ooh weird! lol :P Good musical though! :)

I'd say no, but I do think it would be nice to see a clip or something of each of the nominated actors and actresses. It doesn't have to be long, maybe a very short snippet from a song, or a short scene from a play (like the kind they show for the Oscars). It'd be nice for those of us not living in New York to see the performers in their nominated roles, so we could understand why someone won a Tony and not automatically say "so and so was robbed."

I don't think non-nominated shows should perform. I'd LIKE them to, but that's not what it's really about unfortunately.
One year - I think it was 1979, a non-nominated musical that hadn't even OPENED yet - "I Remember Mama" starring Liv Ullman and George Hearn was given a slot on the Tonys (The Tonys producer was also the producer of "Mama"), and it was ok to see, but far superior shows that season that WERE nominated for at least SOMETHING couldn't perform. People cried foul and that was the end of other shows performing.
yes, depending on the situation.
