SHREK: The Musical will arrive on Broadway in November, 2008, following a tryout August 14-Sept. 21 at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. Christopher Sieber will be part of the cast...I assume Farquaad.

He'd better be Farquaad. Genius. That might actually make me go see the show.

The producers really want you to see it, Mythus.

so next fall, we'll have THREE musicals in which a leading character has to get covered in GREEN makeup. what's up with that?
I am looking forward to this, however. I love Tesori's music so I'll be excited to see what she has come up with.
A show for the renovated Nederlander!
Wait, what is it besides Wicked and this? Grinch?
I might have heard it here, but don't they want the Broadway theatre? It makes sense. I think Color Purple will be closed by November.
I love me some Sieber (yes...I watched every last episode of that Olsen twin series because he gave me palpitations), but isn't he a titch tall for Farquaad?
I think he'd be a marvelous Shrek, though.

If Young Frankenstein is still around....the monster is green.
Will the musical be based on the first movie or all three movies?
Chris is Farquaad. Word on the street is that Sutton is Fiona, but they did not confirm this on playbill.com
UPDATE: The official website seems to indicate that is is based on "the story and characters from William Steig’s book Shrek!, as well as the DreamWorks Animation film Shrek, the first chapter of the Shrek movie series."
Speaking of Shrek,
IMDb has announced two new future films for the Shrek series. One to be called, "Shrek Goes Fourth" is set to be released in 2010, and another "Puss in Boots", a spin-off of the character introduced in "Shrek 2", is set to be released in 2010 as well.

This just seems...weird. I'm not sure how it will work. I trust the creative team, but I just find the whole "animation" to "live action" a little far-fetched for a show that involves a Donkey and an Oger. But I'm kind of excited to see how it turns out, and I love Tesori's music.

I'm a fan of the first film and I think it could translate well as a stage musical, it will be interesting to see how a film which was a stab at Disney films in general can work as a stage musical.
BTW aren't Dreamworks working on the stage musical of Catch Me If You Can or is that being done by different producers?
That's GREAT!
A little DREAMWORKS presence will keep the pressure on Disney to improve their product!

The composer wrote songs for three Disney DTVs and Thoroughly Modern Millie. So the score will be just like Shrek the Third: forgettable...
The composer also wrote the incredible, breathtaking score for CAROLINE, OR CHANGE. Let's not belittle, Tesori, shall we?
How dare y'all forget "Violet."

Yes, goldenstate5, Tesori has created some fantastic work; don't write her off just yet.
hey, loved the movies but not too excited to see the musical at all.
I'm excited to see what Tesori's come up with!!!
The fact that they sight the book is a good sign, and so is the creative team. We'll just have to wait and see.

Wasn't a big fan of Caroline or Change, but I'll give it a chance. Still not expecting too much, though...
