Does anyone know who got cast as Emile de Becque at the Beaumont? I read the part is cast but don't know who.

Riedel reported that they were courting Dmitri Hvorostovsky a while back. Any news on that front?
The only people I know of who have been cast in the show are Kelli O'Hara (as Nellie) and Steven Pasquale (as Cable.)
Wasn't there a rumor going around last month that an offer had gone out to Michael Cerveris for Emile?

Either they got Cerveris for Cymbeline because Pacific couldn't work out, OR they got him for Cymbeline because they also hired him for Pacific and wanted him to do both.
I for one think he would be TERRIBLE as Emile, his whole stage persona doesn't scream Classic American Musical Theatre in my ears...
somethingwicked... I also remember hearing that Michael Cerveris Rumor awhile back, but I think he was only approached about doing it.
DeBeque is *the* quintessential baritone role of musical theatre. I'd hate to see it given to a tenor, and especially one as high as Cerveris.
How about Peter Gallagher as Emile?
Steven Pasquale will be great...Kelli O'Hara sounds boring-especially when names like Scarlett Johannson and Maggie Gyllenhall were being thrown out.
Michael Cerveris is completely role for Emile, they need a Brent Barrett type, Cerveris is a character actor, Emile needs to be the ultimate leading man type.

well as long as they cast actors who can act the role and sing the role i think anliesa vanderpol would be good as nelle
Not that Cerveris is right for the role, but since when is he a tenor?

I love the idea of Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale. Ms. O'Hara has proven time and again that she is versatile...so give her a chance. While I LOVE Dmitri's voice...can he ACT??
Kelli O'Hara is, has been, and hopefully always will be amazing.
but since when is he a tenor?
Yeah I always thought he was a baritone. I'm not opposed to the idea of him playing the part, it would be interesting.

I don't want to see Michael Cerveris near this. Great actor but I need him to stay away.
I thought Patrick Wilson was going to be Cable? Then again, I don't remember seeing an announcement for Cable or Nellie casting for that matter.
Is Kelli O'hara confirmed as Nellie?
Listen to Assassins and then Sweeney and you can tell that his voice sits more comfortably in the tenor range not baritone (and especially not bass which some of Emile's notes do require). Cerveris has a great voice, but there is a reason no one has really bested Enzio Pinza yet.
My first choice would probably be Rodney Gilfry (Encores! The New Moon), but they are probably going for a younger actor and one with more of a name. I also wouldn't mind Martin Vindovic, Burke Moses, or Brent Barrett.
I'm hoping Kelli O'Hara's casting is just a rumor (though I'm sure she'll be perfectly adequate).
I can confirm, with 100% confidence, that O'Hara and Pasquale have been cast.
Well I'm glad to hear about Pasquale, that boy has "star" written all over him. His kids are going to be soooo talented and good looking (Laura Benanti is his wife).

Oy. I think Kelli will be fine and I suppose Pasquale will be too...just not my first choice. I wonder who will be Emile.

jewishboy, Benanti and Pasquale haven't been wed yet, but they are indeed public about their engagement.
As far as I know, Pasquale isn't official. They've been courting him, and he's wanted to do it, but they were facing conflicts with his scheduling for RESCUE ME. Perhaps they finally worked it out.
If John Relyea wasn't singing in a gazillion things at the MET this season, I would love to see/hear him in SOUTH PACIFIC!

I wanted Aaron Lazar...
oh well, I like the idea of Brent Barret, though.

I still don't get why they can't just cast Stokes. He did not look black in "Kiss Me, Kate", so why would he look black here? Even so, one would be pretty tan after living in the South Pacific for a while...
I can't complain if it is Cerveris, because I really love him but I would really love to see Burke Moses in this.
