I know for a fact that Loretta Swit was offered the role of Bloody Mary but she turned it down while she prepares for her star-making debit in MAMMAI MIA, which should happen in the very near future.

I am very happy for Kelli, and glad that Pasquale will be getting his second chance at Broadway stardom after turning down the chance to do "Piazza" on Broadway in favor of "Rescue Me."

BTW, voice types are usually pretty arbitrary, but I'd call Michael Cerveris a "high baritone" if I had to put him in a category.

Brian Stokes Mitchell performed Emile de Becque a few days ago at the Hollywood Bowl. That's what this production needs.

The whole point of the story is that Emile is not a man of color, Nellie is surprised that this man she has fallen in love with married a Polynesian woman and has Polynesian kids. An African-American actor as Emile would completely throw off the balance of the story, it doesn't matter whether he "looks" black or not (I'm still not sure what that means but that's a whole other story), the point is Mitchell considers himself black, audiences know he is, and so the story wouldn't make sense. That's why it's so great he got to do it in concert and record it because he'd be ENTIRELY miscast in an actual production even if he is technically perfect for the role.

Why woud it be so horrible to see what Cerveris would do with the role? Is he suddenly not flavor of the month for you people anymore? Oh yes Michael Cerveris, you're a great singer and even better actor, but for gods sake stay away from this precious quintessntial role in American musical theater.

It is about RESCUE ME, SOUTH PACIFIC had him on hold for a while, but Leary wouldn't adjust his schedule.

Considering the writers strike, he may not have much to do on Rescue Me.
