There really is no legitimate reason for why it's there. Arachne is invading New York and making all her illusions and terrorizing people, and in the middle of it all because she can't reach Peter, she and her 'furies' (other spiders) decide to go... shoe shopping. It really needs to go.

The reason the shoe song is there is the same reason the Geek Chorus is there... transition time. They need the time backstage during "Deeply Furious" to get Arachne out of her giant spider harness.
So there needs to be a song there, but why it's THAT song... I have no idea.

haha- Julie probably wanted to show off those wacky spider outfits too. But the Furies show up in Think Again as well (if I remember, they are hanging, no?), so I don't think it would be a tragedy if they didn't show up again. I'd rather there be a Peter song at that part though, since we basically just heard from Arachne, and it's not like her feelings go through a change between those songs... She's mad a Peter for not having sex with her, all will pay, etc etc.

I don't ever remember her entering, but she must descend or something, because she's on this sort of metal platform a third of the way up the orchestra during "Behold and Wonder." It's not really a major event of effect- the focus is really what's going on onstage at that point.

Arachne's first entrance is not over the audience, it's over the stage. Her furies are doing the giant basket weave, and she descends straight down from the flyspace. She enters over the audience at the start of "Think Again" in the second act.
It must be the very edge of the flyspace then, because from where I was sitting, I was basically staring right back up at the bottom of the platform that she was standing on.

Happy New Year! I'll be seeing the matinee on the 19th, and I'll be sitting in row C, seat 1 in the orchestra section. Will I be able to see the flying parts, well? I know that I'm no where near the 'flying circle', but I wondered/hoped that I would be able to view/appreciate them. Thank you for your help!
Yeah, that's just a few rows up from where I was. You'll probably have to turn around or crane your neck a bit, but once you do, you'll have no problem. The orchestra is very exciting to be in during the fights anyway, as the effect of Spidey dropping into the aisles and the fighting right overhead is very neat. Have fun!

how's that burgeoning film career for jim sturgess going? lol
no offense to him but he'd be getting a lot more press and probably future auditions if he'd chosen to go with spider-man. and the show would have a peter parker who can sing! imagine that.
I think Reeve Carney has comparable if not better vocal talent than Jim Sturgess does. I do think Sturgess is a better actor though. His voice really doesn't translate to television well, but I think he sounded absolutely amazing in person.

sundaymorning6am, I'd say Sturgess's film career is going pretty well.
In the three years since ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, he's released seven movies. He just finished two substantial films where he has the male lead- ONE DAY (based on the hugely successful novel) opposite Anne Hathaway, and an independent movie titled UPSIDE DOWN opposite Kirsten Dunst. Next, he's getting ready to do a war epic called THE WAY BACK with Colin Farrell, Ed Harris, and Saoirse Ronan. Not too shabby, if you ask me.
While he certainly would have gotten a lot of press for SPIDER-MAN, he hasn't stopped working for a second in the interim since being involved with it.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I would have to disagree as well, sundaymorning. The role of Peter Parker is so poorly written (and Reeve Carney's uninspired performance is no help) that Jim Sturgess would have been drowned in bad reviews for the show and for himself. He was wise to jump ship early on.
Natalie Mendoza on the other hand...She may have been pissed off at her employers and a bit scared for her safety, but her decision to quit the show was a bad one. She was excellent in the role and probably would have earned a Tony nomination. Now she's unemployed and will probably never work on Broadway again. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
I hadn't heard about him doing thing since the film '21' (which I love), but that's fine then.
I was trying to say that I think his name would be in the press MUCH more if he were apart of the show than it is now (which is, as far as I'm aware, not at all).
