Late November or early December at the latest for the soundtrack. Hopefully in September we will finally get some news/info regarding the theatrical trailer.
The Somewhere Ballet is supposed to be in this version. It was meant to be in the original 1961 version, but Jerome Robbins was fired so it had to be cut.
Yep, someone on here said that the number has been written, choreographed, and filmed so I'm actually excited that this often cut sequence might make it in this version. Since that this is Justin Peck we're talking about, the dancing should be something wonderful to watch as a whole.

To my knowledge, the Ballet has only ever been cut from the 1961 film and the new revival. And maybe they can use the vocal track of Reri Grist singing Somewhere, but with the David Newman orchestration.
I'm betting more than anything that a) This movie is being pushed to next year, hence the little publicity and b) The movie is being moved to Disney+ and the trailer will be released with the announcement like how the last MULAN trailer premiered with the announcement.
I doubt that those things will happen because from I could tell so far, movie theaters (drive-ins included) are doing a very good job with re-openings and social distancing/mask wearing rules. I'm very optimistic that West Side Story will keep it's December 18th opening date so long as people follow the rules.
The Prom can't be the only musical film to carry 2020 you know.
Speaking of awesome tweets, he's another angle of the America number being shot with Ariana and David in the center. Justin Peck's choreography is going to look stunning on film.
On one hand, I really like this change where the number (judging from the filming footage online so far) opens up in a big way in comparison to the original to differentiate itself, yet on the other, it can fall into either well done opening up ("Do Re Mi" from The Sound of Music) or unnecessary opening up ("Put on Your Sunday Clothes" from Hello Dolly!).
It is interesting though that Spielberg is taking a note or two from the 1960's era of movie musicals. But yet that remains to be seen because the trailer is yet to show up; but I am excited to see how this all turns out in the end.
TENET has crashed and they moved Wonder Woman again, if a big genre picture like TENET cant bring people in what makes you think a movie musical with "no stars" is going to? and it is not a title that will play well internationally...
I see where you're coming from, but 3 months from now might be a different story. The two biggest movie markets in the country (LA/NYC) remain closed which is why Tenet has such a poor showing. I mean, I thought it blew but that's another story.
December might be okay for movie theaters, at 50% capacity of course.
I’m sorry, for anyone to believe this is actually being released in theaters this year is fooling themselves. There has been no marketing, every new release has tanked and everything is still being pushed back. There is no marketing because of the very real possibility of it being pushed back.
I personally don't think it's going to be pushed back. I think that if things still don't go well in the next month or so, they can pull the theatrical release and make it a Disney+ Original on December 18th. That would be a good alternative.
Most December movie musicals don't have their marketing push until late September/early October anyway so why don't we wait and see what happens.

Cinemas that have resumed business have done so at reduced to 25-50% capacity, automatically limiting ticket sales.

Sunday in the Park with George
I think we have to be realistic here. As much as this is my most anticipated movie of the year, I'd prefer they push it to next year. Selfishly, I'd rather have many eyeballs on it on the big screen when Covid ends than in December when we'll probably be in the same situation we're in now or on Disney Plus. Moreover, from what I know, only Spielberg has seen the movie, as of back in June. If any Disney execs have seen it, then they've probably seen just a little bit (as of June), which leads me to believe Spielberg has a lot of power. I feel like Spielberg is the kind of filmmaker that would not want this movie on a streaming platform. Lastly, since September 15 to October 16 is Hispanic Heritage Month, I feel sure we'll be seeing a trailer between this time frame if it's still coming out in December. If there's no trailer by October 16th, then I'd wager this movie will not be released in December.

It obviously has been moved in the plot timeline from where it takes place as written: after the dance at the gym. The original 1957 Broadway version is in an alley and the 1961 film adaptation is on a rooftop - at night.
