"A show cannot be called a revival if it has never been on Broadway before; a revival is specifically a re-staging of a production that has previously appeared on Broadway. If a show is making its Broadway debut, it is considered a new production, not a revival." (AI generated response)
Although there have been 3 previous productions of this version (in CA, MI, and PA), this would be the first on Broadway.

This WILL be a revival if produced. The Tony committee also decides in a per-case scenario.
Dozens of first-time on Broadway shows have been deemed revivals for nomination matters.

Yes, but WILL "The Fantasticks" be considered a revival?

well we won’t know if WILL be a revival until it is mounted and the Tony Committee rules it, but based on previous shows that are in similar situations as this, we can assume it will be a revival unless of course the committee breaks precedent and rules otherwise. Where’s the confusion coming from?

No confusion. I got the message via the (2) previous posts immediately above blaxx's. (Third time's the charm, I guess.)
Truth be told, I'd just read an article about the pardoned J6 insurrectionists seeking reparations and I took my anger out on blaxx. My bad. Sorry, blaxx. ![]()

If this is the script used in the Provincetown production, then a lot would need to be revamped for it to succeed in New York. Maybe it’s the show itself (I hadn’t seen the Fantasticks in decades), the mostly community theater cast, or David Drake’s direction, but it had no charm. And the audience response was tepid at best.

A vehicle for Ben Platt and Noah Galvin?
Note: this was meant as a "be careful what you wish for" post. ![]()

Yes. It is a 66-year-old musical.

I doubt it would happen, but this would be lovely in Circle In The Square.

I saw this in Michigan when it premiered, and thought it was really charming.
