TONY Award Performances

dramamama611-Yeah, I was saying that shows that are closed shouldn't be nominated. Plus, I'm also surprised that BIO got nominated because it did closed a long time ago, so I thought it would be forgotten to big producers by now

Even though shows that opened and closed earlier in the season are at a slight disadvantage, there are still performances and achievements that deserve recognition. I know I'm not alone in thinking that the already-closed revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? was one of the high points of the season and think it would be ridiculous if it wasn't eligible for awards because it wasn't able to build a strong enough audience to extend and extend into awards season.

Plus didn't Bring It On get positive reviews?
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

TONY Award Performances

All four new musicals will perform: Matilda, Kinky Boots, Bring it On & A Christmas Story(simply because it's returning). 3 out of the four revivals will perform: Pippin, Annie & Cinderella. We'll also see something from Motown for a total of 8 performances. Plus the Tonys usually has some touring company or long running show perform as well(Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, Mormon & Lion King have all have companies perform at the Tonys).
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

I'd love to see scenes from THE NANCE, LUCKY GUY, ASSEMBLED PARTIES, ...WOOLF?, ...BOUNTIFUL, etc.

I mean, you have Cicely Tyson and Tom Hanks. Can we get SCENES back on the Tonys? They were on the right track last year when they combined montages with live performances from PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS, and END OF THE RAINBOW. (Just ditch that horrible silhouette sequence with the slow-motion dancers.)
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Lin-Manuel Miranda posted a Vine of the Bring It On cast rehearsing "It's All Happening," so it looks like that's what they will be performing!

I wonder if Annie will do the same medley the Original Broadway Cast did at the Tonys- but I hope not as we all know that Easy Street is Crappy compared to the original version.

You know Annie is gonna shoehorn Jane Lynch into getting as much screen time as possible to advertise the show through the summer. But it's a toss up since she performed "Little Girls" on Glee, and yes, Easy Street will be nowhere near as good as Louden's performance.
Xanadu! Can't cry on cue!

I believe they are doing a "Little Girls"/"Hard Knock Life" medley for Annie.

Do shows ever perform more than one number during the Tony's?

"Do shows ever perform more than one number during the Tony's?"

Sometimes there will be additional bits of shows in the opening number, but I can't remember a show ever doing two whole, separate performances within the telecast.

Darn. I would have loved to see both "Magic to Do" and "No Time at All" so that Pippin could show off Patina and Andrea.

Hearing rumors that the Matilda cast is practicing with scooters TONY Award Performances

No Time At All is the biggest show stopper for Pippin, so I'd doubt they'd give away any of the trapeze stuff that Martin does.

"Hearing rumors that the Matilda cast is practicing with scooters"

Suggesting they will be doing the finale reprise of "When I Grow Up" at some point- probably the easier, more cost-effective alternative to the swings.
"...everyone finally shut up, and the audience could enjoy the beginning of the Anatevka Pogram in peace."

Maybe Megan could do "They Just Keep Moving The Line"? They seem to be giving anyone and everyone else time to perform.

Seems they aren't using the same old one from Radio City past…or are they? I can't really tell.

I don't think so... looks like the one from last year at the Beacon.

Any new details about EVERY SINGLE SHOW being in the opening number? Sounds cool.

Interesting that Wicked isn't performing…then again it's not like they need the press.

I was hoping Wicked would perform so they could show off how amazing Lindsay Mendez is as Elphaba.

^Me, too! And Derek. You would think they would because of the upcoming 10 year milestone.
