TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
#25TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
Posted: 4/2/10 at 10:53amTime Stands Still will almost certainly be nominated for best play. I'd for sure give it better chances than the tepidly received Race or the long-closed Superior Donuts.

^ Exactly, Calvin. I also believe that Laura Linney will be nominated and likely win; I wouldn't be surprised if any and all of the other three cast members are also nominated. A show that good will be remembered.
Ditto BRIDGE. It will get a slew of nominations despite the fact that it will have already closed. I don't think anyone would refute that.

Posted: 4/2/10 at 10:57amI don't know how anyone could think that Linney/Time Stands Still are anything but locks.
#28TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
Posted: 4/2/10 at 10:59amApparently, the person who started this thread thinks A. Pill is more of a lock than Linney...
#29TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
Posted: 4/2/10 at 11:17amI'd call Linney a lock at this point, and I'd also give pretty good chances to Alicia Silverstone at getting a supporting actress nod.

Posted: 4/2/10 at 11:18amI find the fact that TSS is closed particularly irrelevant because it played a major not-for-profit, where nobody expected it to run indefinitely.

Truth be told, I didn't really like ER that much, though the YouTube sequence had me howling, as did the Mr. Rogers sequence. It a tougher year, I'd say that it wouldn't stand a chance.
However, the choices are so weak this year, that it stands a great chance of winning at least Best Actress and Best Book.
#33TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
Posted: 4/2/10 at 12:30pmIt's hard to judge, but everything I've seen this season has been pretty weak except for Ragtime and maybe Night Music. That said, I think Angela might not be the only Night Music lady who gets a Best Supporting Actress nod. Leigh Ann Larkin was very good. I'd pick her over Krysta Rodriguez.

Posted: 4/2/10 at 12:45pmGlinda: I have to agree with you - and for my two cents, I thought Ragtime was the best thing I've seen so far from this past season - in terms of performances and over all production. I think the peformances of Christiane Noll and Robert Petkoff were the stand outs, and I also think that Quentin gave a really thoughtful performance of Coalhouse. I just wish there had been a recording of this show, as I think the music/acting on this made for performances I would love to be able to listen to. Anyway, I hope that Ragtime gets some nominations at Tony time, but I know that there are a lot of shows in the mix.....

Posted: 4/2/10 at 12:58pmi have to disagree with you Muscle.. i loved FINIAN's and it was my favorite revivval this year but I really don't think it'll win.. i think the nomination is highly probably but i really think it'll go to LA CAGE, PROMISES (granted we havent seen LA CAGE yet) or NIGHT MUSIC
#37TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
Posted: 4/2/10 at 1:00pm^I think muscle meant it was a lock for a nomination. And I'd have to agree. Night Music, Finian's, and La Cage will be nominated. The last spot will be Promises Promises or (if the reviews are bad) Ragtime.

Well here is my two cents worth, just came back from New York, where I saw 8 musical, what a tough year for The Tony awards, so much deserving shows for both best new and revival.

Best Book of a Musical – Rick Elice - Memphis
Best Original Score – Andrew Lippa - The Addams Family
Best Revival of a Musical – La Cage Aux Folles
Best Special Theatrical Event – Sondheim on Sondheim
Best Leading Male in a Musical – Douglas Hodge – La Cage Aux Folles
Best Leading Female in a Musical – Montego Glover - Memphis

Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical – Angela Lansbury
Best Direction of a Musical – Terry Johnson - La Cage Aux Folles
Best Orchestrations – Larry Hochman- The Addams Family

Best Costumes Design of a Musical – Bruce Pask – Promises, Promises
Best Lighting Design of a Musical – Kevin Adams - American Idiot
Best Sound Design of a Musical – Acme Sound Partners - The Addams Family
Best Choreography – Christopher Bailey - Promises, Promises
I did not see Finnans Rainbow, Ragtime, Bye Bye Birdie as these had shut.
Decided not to see Fela as it is coming to London soon. Decided to see Next to Normal again ad finally see In The Heights, I know all you will understand my reasons here.
Come Fly Away is not a musical so I did not see it, but will fall in above categories.
La Cage Aux Folles judged on the sublime London production I saw 6 times.

Best Book of a Musical – Rick Elice - Memphis
Interesting, since Rick Elice didn't write the book for Memphis.
Best Special Theatrical Event – Sondheim on Sondheim
That category doesn't exist anymore.

Sorry George W. George for M book Memphis
I am aware the 'Special Theatrical Event' has been regrettably withdrawn. Just think Sondheim on Sondheim does deserve some recognition.
This does not explain why you think my prediction is bizarre, hope that is not a criticism?

someone liked Addams Family quite a bit! Don't think there is any way it could win best musical though. certainly could get nominated though. Another tough category will be Director of Musical. Michael Mayer with two shows, Bill T Jones with Fela, Terry Johnson for La Cage...

#47TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
Posted: 4/2/10 at 3:29pmI'd put Zachary James' chance at even a nomination pretty low. Nothing wrong with him per se; it's just not much of a role.
#48TONYS 2010: The Predix, They Are, A-Changing
Posted: 4/2/10 at 3:30pm^ Yeah, Zachary James won't be nominated. I don't even think Chamberlin is that worthy of a nomination, and he has more of a chance than James does.
