I will never see this show but like to learn about most things related to musical theatre. Never had heard about nor read TE so hired the movie and was bored after 15mins. Skipped segments but got the idea.
Loved reading all your comments and perhaps the whole piece would have adapted better as a full length ballet. Realistic/fantasy also allows more credibility with age variance.

The ballet, like everything else, is overdone. It could have been told in half the time. We get it. Instead it just drags and drags and drags. And then you think the shows over, but no.
I enjoyed looking at the pretty boy----those lips were made for--------you insert [the words].
They must be frozen.

Well, yes, considering they open on Tuesday. They've likely been frozen for a week(ish).
Saw this last night. Although it was beautiful to look out, I found the score dreadfully dull! I liked the final ballet the best. Anyone know who in the male ensemble left? Sharrod Williams is a recent addition/replacement to the cast.

I believe it's Matt Meigs
^ I wonder why his contract was so short or maybe he is injured?
I just noticed he was rehearsing his understudy track a few days ago so I'm guessing he's a swing/understudy rather than ensemble now.
Matt Meigs is still listed in the Playbill. It's Jonathan Burke whose name appears on IBDB, but is not in the Playbill. I saw him in a production of Choir Boy in DC last year.
this show was a 2 hour nap. SO BAD. the music was awful, the dancing heinous and AKB's acting was mildly epileptic.

It's very impressive that you gave such a comprehensive review, considering you took a 2 hour nap.
I found the show to be wonderful. The performances were good across the entire cast. The dancing was spectacular, and the music added warmth and emotion, which further deepened the message of the story.
Sorry you slept through it.

i think the greater shame is your inability to understand sarcasm.
Here is the highlights reel

Not really impressed, the music does not hit me and I am sorry but that red poodle wig for "Winnie" looks awful.
I saw "Tuck Everlasting" last weekend and about 10 minutes into the show, I turned to my friends I was with and said "this is horrible." The music was very blah......there was no characterization whatsoever......the "bad guy" was useless, etc. The only part I liked was the dance at the end. I left upset that I actually spent money on that. Plus, for those that have seen the show, I don't understand why they had that stationary tree on stage the entire time?!? From where I was sitting, my view was non existent every time the characters were raised in the air. It served no point. Also - why did dancers magically appear out of no where to do some choreography and disappear without the characters realizing what just happened? I was very confused with that.
Ps. I was dragged to see "Bright Star" that morning and ended up LOVING it. Go see that show instead of "Tuck Everlasting."
I know it's not in Previews anymore, but I don't want to start a new thread...
I just got tickets for tonight's show and they're for Row B in the Right Mezz. I know that tree is on that side. Does anyone know if it blocks much from the Mezz or if it's only the Orch where the tree is a problem?
I mean...even if your view is blocked you should be asleep within 10 minutes of the start of the show, so it won't really matter.

I thought Tuck was amazing. The story is believable and ther peefomances given by Sarah, Carolee, Terrance, as well as the rest of the cast, are very impressive. I'm not sure why people have decided to get so negative about a piece of theatre that does an awesome job telling a story that deals with a very real life lesson. To me, I compare it to works like The Secret Garden, Big River, etc. which really allow you to compare the events in the story to events in your own life.
I have nothing against the other musicals being considered this season, but I think Tuck should be recognized for how the total package is delivered to the audience. The visuals are breathtaking and honestly some of the best work I have seen on the Broadway stage this season...it is so refreshing to see truly thoughtful work on the stage and I think the cast gives it every performance. I think that this is unexpected evening for Casey and people go into it expecting his usual deal, but I appreciate his ability to step outside the box and really deliver something that we have not seen in a while.
I think everyone can agree that while not perfect, Tuck Everlasting truly is a must see this season and really deserves the chance to be considered not only because of the amazing costumes and amazing performances by the star studded cast, but because it really shows a side of the creative team that we don't usually get to see/celebrate.

I 100% agree with this. Tuck was OK. Terrance Mann was my favorite part but his role is small. Sorry but I did not care for most of the other performances except Michael Park. (I can now see why people who saw him in Dear Evan Hansen in DC say they miss him.). It felt very much like a family show, and the audience had bizarre and annoying reactions. (Like ooohing during a kiss.). I'm ok that I saw this because it's the last musical this season still out that I haven't seen besides Disaster, but I think there are so many great new musicals that I would pick any of them over this. Bright Star has a lovely score and I enjoyed the show infinitely more than Tuck.

I, too, found it to be a lovely show, and I'm surprised at some of the negative reactions. I think the ballet at the end is stunningly beautiful and a total surprise. I'm rooting for this show to do well, and it will be very popular with young audiences -- it's sweet, yet thought-provoking. Such amazingly diverse shows in NYC right now. I saw "Dear Evan Hansen" tonight -- I have a feeling that is going to be big next year on Broadway. There's room for all kinds of shows. If "Tuck Everlasting" is too G-rated for you, try Evan.

How can we "all agree" that it's a must see if many thought it was boring?
I didn't hate it, but I couldn't go so far as to recommend the show to anyone. Or no one I liked, anyway.
It felt like really decent children's theater, with a well behaved audience.

I saw the final preview and it reminded me of the cotton candy at the fair. Light and bright with some contented moments ("My Most Beautiful Day" was one) but after all was said and done, I wasn't completely satisfied.
I suspect I might enjoy the cast recording because I liked the performances but it was a show I appreciated more in moments rather than a cohesive whole.
I feel that Tuck Everlasting is going to be this year's "Honeymoon in Vegas". The critics for the most part praised it, but it is not endearing itself to the public with the mostly negative audience reaction. No two Broadway fans are like, what one loves, the other despises, so on this show and many more to come we are never going to come to a unanimous agreement. But I have to say given the overwhelming poor feedback I am reading from this thread and the other Tuck Everlasting thread, I think I will pass on this show when I go to New York later this year.
