Apparently I'm the only one today who noticed the new Tony Roberts line to Curtis? "Last time I saw a guy that looked like you, he was trying to sell me a nickel bag. I still don't know what is..." I was the one on stage who cracked up before he even finished the like, it so threw me off guard!
Is it weird to totally fall in love with a show all over again? The show, while in great shape post-Tonys, got an extra boost today with Curtis and Patti as Sonny and Kira. With due respect to Kerry and Cheyenne, there was an entirely new energy to the show today. Maybe it was the (wonderfully) full house, maybe because the cast really felt like it was putting out its fullest energy to support Curtis and Patti (and Kate and Ryan), maybe it was Curtis' finale shorts...but it was a fantastic afternoon.
Patti and Curtis' strengths, besides the skating ability, is in all the little moments they create for their characters, and their different take on their jokes and giving the throwaway lines some uumph! Finally, I wasn't the only one laughing on "She's one foxy lady." and "A few actually humiliating..." And they sing and dance great. And yes, there were some extra cutesy moments between them, but it made it all the more special. And the audience was eating them up!
Special kudos to Kate and Ryan, who did a great job as always - but it's always nice to see such a different combination of faces on stage, gives the show a whole new energy.
