Somethingwicked, I could not agree with you more. It's come to the point that just the mention of her name annoys the hell out of me since it always means that we have to deal with her fans being completely unable to have rational, normal discussions.
Mandy Gonzales would be great, though I still think Olivo would be dynamite in the part. Ohh, to imagine her singing and acting her way through "I'd Be Surprisingly Good for You" and the "A New Argentina" sequence makes me a bit more excited than it should.

Just thought I throw this into the mix, maybe a bit controversial though.

With the success of in the Heights and West Side Story on Broadway, wouldn't Evita be right for the next show to have a couple of songs in Spanish? I would think Don't cry for me Argentina, would be sublime in Spanish?

Yes, the Spanish in WSS has been SO successful that Laurents has begun to slowly remove it.

well, I know there was an attempt with the London revival to make the show more authentically Latin. there was a real emphasis on the tango (which, I believe, was part of the reason Elena Roger was cast), and they had some actual guitars in the orchestra (which was an improvement). oh, and Magaldi's costume has become less mariachi stereotype and more dashing tango singer. not Spanish, but an effort.

Since there are already 50,000 threads on the Evita Revival, I figured I'd bump one to share my idea. Today, I was listening to a couple of songs from Evita and then switched to In The Heights, and thought of the idea of Alex Lacamoire and Bill Sherman doing the orchestrations for Evita. Does anyone else think that would be total perfection?

I'm all for Alice Ripley...but it people think that Orfeh and Sutton Foster are too old, then Alice doesn't have a chance.

How about Eden Espinosa?

Please Karen Olivo.

The idea of Orfeh as Evita is hilarious. Eva is supposed to be trash masquerading as class, not straight-up trash.

Orfeh is not trashy.

I've always thought Mandy Gonzalez would be great for this role. I would love to see her.

Neither Sutton nor Orfeh are right for this role at ALL, and I can't believe the debate that went on about them. And I am a huge fan of Sutton.

I would be interested to hear Eden sing the role as well, though maybe not play it.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Karen to death, but I just don't see her as Eva. I have suggested Eden before, but many people on the board think that her belt is so 'screamy', so I sort of got eaten for that suggestion.

I love that Broadway only has around ten performers to choose from.

Has no one thought that maybe Barbra wouldn't have been that bad a choice back then? If the right amount of make-up will still do it for her now, I think she can take it. She kind of has the classic Eva logo look, and I don't think there's any question that Barbra has a voice. Sure, they'd have to transpose a little, but they did it for Madonna.

Don't cry for me, Barbra Streisand.
The truth is I've never liked you.
You'll do the movie,
And what a bummer
When you sing Eva
Like Donna Summer.
