It was true about the people just wanting a free cd, playbill or lobby card just for the sake of having one..... I'd say that at least 3/4 of the crowd there either saw the show already or knew about Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. You could tell because they had questions for the cast and also greeted them by name. It was special for both my twin sons because between the both of them, they've watched the show three times each and will watch them again after the AIDS Walk on the 15th. The "Boys" recognized my sons from their encounters at the stage door and thanked them for their support because they always wear their "Jersey Boys" gear wherever they go.
One passersby asked my son who the "Jersey Boys" were, and after my son answered "they are stars in a Tony Award winning musical Broadway play", she said, "gosh, I thought they were part of a baseball team....." This was pretty funny, and would have cracked up the cast, if it happened within earshot of their table.
I also hope that word of mouth will spread from attendees of this past Macy's appearance. Friends, family, clients, significant others and repeat Jersey Boys fans will definitely love the onstage experience watching the Four Season's lives and career unfold in front of our eyes.
Aww that's disappointing news, although I can understand his reason for leaving. I've seen Doug go on a few times and thought he was great everytime. I hope only great things for him in the future.
It would be great if he ends up in the Vegas cast. It would be funny if that was one of the reasons he's leaving, but he just can't say it right now.
I saw Doug go on for Nate on his first day (second performance), and another time for Gutman, I think. His girlfriend brought him flowers the first time he went on, it was adorable. I thought someone had posted a bit ago that the entire Sherry cast had renewed their contracts through December...
Also, does anyone know why Hickman performed with the rest of the Boys at Pride last weekend? He isn't even listed as a Gaudio cover, and since Ryan has gone on, and I would assume Jake has been well-rehearsed for his shows next weekend, I would have thought that one of them would have filled in.
Granted, I don't know what they performed. And Hickman looked cute.
Sorry for all of the mixing and matching of first and last names, just thinking outloud.
I forgot, it was mentioned in Eric Gutman's blog that everyone resigned. There is going to be a reason why Doug is leaving, it might be the one he states on myspace or it could be a cover up for another reason, who knows. This is just me speculating.
Although I'm wondering why you have Marianne in the subject heading. Is that what the SF/Chicago company is going to be reffered to as?
I'm like... 99.9% certain that it was how Kathryn had referred to the 2NT on the myspace pages at some point. And of course, now I can't find any of those references anywhere. My sister just confirmed that I didn't completely make it up. Hmmph.
And yes, Gutman's blog. Apparently, all the information bouncing around in my head gets mixed up and I forget where I heard it.
Erich has updated his blog after a short hiatus, but can't blame him, the guy has been busy. He updates on everything he's done since the his last entry.
Just got home from seeing Steven Goldsmith's first performance as Frankie. He was GREAT. There were a few moments where he rushed a few lines (and dropped the mic right before "Fallen Angel"), but for the most part, you wouldn't really know he was an understudy and was thoroughly enjoyable to watch.
He also does a full splits before "Beggin." Haven't seen that since Chris Jones -- which reminds me, Steve was very similar to Chris Jones in some ways. His voice is more musical theatre-sounding than Jarrod Spector's, and his falsetto is easier than Chris'. I really liked his argument scenes with Jenny Lee Ramos, and his expressions during the Act 1 triptych? He was having a blast. Great job, and I'd love to see him again after he's played Frankie a few more times.

Guh, why am I in Arizona? But my friend and cousin went. I can't wait for them to get home to talk about ittttttt!
AND I'm pretty much going directly from the airport to the Curran when we get back to catch Jake's first on Friday. How was Hickman as Gyp? I've only seen him in Mike's track.
Oh, and do we know when Michael's first performance back is? Gutman wrote about Steve's put-in being on like... Wednesday down in LA.
I was at the evening show too, and I need to be getting to bed as I have to work in the morning so I won't go on for too long, but Steven Goldsmith was great as Frankie! I really enjoyed his performance. On the scale of Chris Jones (great acting, sometimes not my favorite on the vocals) to Jarrod Spector (great vocals, sometimes not my favorite on the acting), I think he was in-between, leaning slightly towards Jones. I really liked his acting, and his falsetto was quite nice.
I would love to see him when he has done the role a few more times, as I'm sure he'll only get better.
Sidenote: John Coppola's dancing as Joey during "Cry for Me" was totally hilarious.

I just got home from the show. Have to agree with Lizzie. Steven is a fantastic Frankie. If you're a person seeing the first show for the first time you couldn't tell that it was his first time in the role. This woman, who was seeing the show for the first time, came up to me during intermission and mentioned that she enjoyed his performance. I mentioned it was his first time on, and she was suprised to hear it. His falsetto is amazing, very easy on the ears and I think it's very close to the real Frankie. There were also scenes I thought he performed better then Jarrod. His parts duing the table scene did not seem acted but it felt like they were actually unfolding in real life. And every scene he did with Jenny I would describe the same way. You cold tell by his performace that he was really enjoying his time on stage. I'm sure he'll only get better with a few more performaces under his belt. If you're lucky to see him perform you won't be dissapointed. I would not be suprised if one day they bump him up to an alternate or permanent Frankie.
On a side note, Drew's performance was very intense compared to the other times I've seen him. It made his protrayal better and I think it was his best performace out of the one's I've seen. Updated On: 7/2/07 at 02:52 AM
Drew was ANGRYBOB!!!!! tonight. What was with that? I liked it, but it was so different from when I last saw him about 5 weeks ago. (Last time I saw it, Ryan West was on as Bob.)
Lyndsey Cole had a nice rapport with Steven, too (as much as you can say Francine has one with her dad, but you know what I mean...).

Yeah, his Bob did seem mightily aggravated. It worked, it just surprised me.

If I didn't know what was going to happen duing the scene with the record exec, I could see his Bob tonight puching him in the face.
Speaking of the record exec, I have never seen Eddie do that with the cigar. But it's a way to demonstrate to a person to "stick it where the sun don't shine."

Ok so what we've all known for months has been officially announced. The Jersey Boys Tour is having a stop in Sac. So if you want to see the Sherry Cast again and see how Steve is fitting in with them, here's the link for all the info. http://tinyurl.com/3cf4nh
Edit: If you look at the scrolling pictures in the top bar, they have a picture of Steve with Chris, Deven, and Erich near the end of "Who Loves You."

i also noticed how the show has changed, given that i haven't been back for a while. des was in the house on sat night, so perhaps that's why it's a little bit of a different show after they changed a few things?
does anyone else feel like steve gouveia's nick massi is becoming more similar to michael ingersoll's? there were flashes where i felt like this was occurring, but maybe i'm hallucinating.
john hickman was amazing as gyp! you could really see his acting abilities shine through, and i loved how he really put his own stamp on the role and didn't try to copy eddie driscoll or any other gyp decarlo's that i've seen. he went on as a last minute replacement for eddie driscoll, so kudos for a great performance.
this is the second cover i've seen him do, and am impressed with his versatility and acting range.
a shoutout on BWW to john michael dias - really loving his frankie valli. Updated On: 7/2/07 at 11:28 AM
